KHRF: Three day weekend of DOOM

Jul 09, 2008 09:00

We survived the three-day weekend. Good. Now lets not do it again any time soon, okay?

Friday was slow (as we all expected), but not as slow as many of us thought when there was no one at the gates at 10 AM. We had about 250 people all day, and there was lots of goofing off and playing around. At 6:30, in the middle of pubsing, rain of epic proportions blew in, and we ended up extending pubsing for another half-hour because the patrons weren't going anywhere in all the rain. A good time was had by all. We had a visiting noble all weekend, and I ended up being his rat pucking catty. It had been about a year since I'd played, so that was fun. He was pretty bad (whether intentionally or not) so the crowd had a good time watching me get ready to run and then take two steps forward. :)

Saturday was fun. We had a fantastic crowd at opening gate, and things just went up from there. Some of Bob (capt_amos) and Dieter's (mythfish) friends from the Phoenix Swords came down from Massachusetts, and that was an awesome surprise. Mom, Dad and Simon came down for the day too. I think they had a good time, and when Simon got bored later on in the day, he played Pirate's Dice with Bob and Lance (hms_ennui). He lost, but he put up a pretty good fight for a kid who had forgotten you could lie in the game. :) There was more singing, cattying, and general goofing off. We had extra people at the joust, so I got the day off of cheerleading duties. Also, Mom has decided I need new shoes. Considering mine were only supposed to be temporary (they were cheap Wal-mart shoes that I cut the bows off of) and I've worn them two seasons now, I have to agree.

Saturday night we went out to dinner with said visitors from Massachusetts. It was fun to finally meet some of the people I've heard lots about.

Sunday. Day three. It's really difficult to keep the momentum going for that long. It also didn't help that around noon I started cramping (Yay for being female!) and really just wanted to find a nice cool place to sleep for the rest of the afternoon. Later on, some of the teens from my library showed up. That was great, even when one of them questioned my accent:

Her: *Puzzled look* Do you really talk like that?
Me: *Still in accent* You know me. Do I always talk like this? *after a pause, out of accent* Let me give you a hint. *shakes head, and mouths NO*

Ah, my teens. They're a little slow sometimes. :)
