I feel like I've spent a small fortune on Ryanair of late (ugh) but actually, counting up the 5 (yes 5) separate flights I've booked, they're not cumulatively too expensive. Which is the one and only reason I still use Ryanair, of course ( Read more... )

Lucy: I'm very sorry, I was snap-reacting earlier and didn't give you a considered response which you deserved, please accept my apology. Of course I take your point about the environmental problem, and I am not enjoying the amount of upcoming flights. The happiness in my post was only about the upcoming experiences, not the method of reaching them, and I will undertake to try to offset my footprint which will be unusually high this year.

I do prize my holidays as life experiences and unfortunately the world is geared to flying: I did look into non-plane alternatives but they're frighteningly expensive and take day(s) sometimes which I can't afford holiday-wise. I probably adapt too readily to the ease of flying, and you're absolutely right to remind me not to be blasé about it.
I apologise if I sounded crass. That's not usually me.

But I do love to travel and the 'travel bug' is not done with me, so all I can apologise for is being casual about the method but not the will or the experiences it renders, which are wonderful and make my life immensely richer. Also, I don't take the expense lightly: it's not like I'm able to, on a publishing salary, so please don't feel I'm treating these experiences as frequent rights: each is special to me, and enjoyed to the full.

Hope that better expresses what I actually meant the first time, and hope I haven't offended you.
