[RL with Chuck-Touchy Feely Virus Day One

Apr 25, 2009 20:05

It wasn't the first time she had faked being sick. What with being a mediator she'd had to skip school more times than she could count. Besides, it didn't take much to convince her mother that she was sick. A few coughs and a moan of pain here or there and the deal was sealed ( Read more... )

Chuck was uncomfortable, and that was putting it mildly. He didn't like being stuffed under the bed, or hiding from Suze's mom. Of course, the alternative was worse, not to mention involved a lot of explaining. He just hoped he didn't sneeze due to any dust bunnies that might be sharing his current hidy hole.

He made a tiny strangled sound at Suze's words, he did not want to face the wrath of a mother today. The hand holding Suze's was definitely...sweaty.

Suze shook her head and rolled her eyes at Chuck's weak response. At least he was freaked out enough not to move.

Soon enough her mother walked in, knocking first, but not bothering for Suze to answer. "Susie, what are you still doing in bed?" she gasped and walked over to the bedside.

"I'm not feeling so well Mom..." Suze groaned and meekly looked up. She took a moment to plant a fake coughing fit.

Her mother reached down and placed her hand on Suze's forehead. "You do feel a little warm and you're pale...I guess that means no school for you today. Go back to sleep sweetie okay?"

"Mmm..." Suze muttered and closed her eyes, pretending to go back to sleep. Her mother made a few tsk, tsk noises and left the room, quietly closing the door behind her.

"See?" Suze said, opening her eyes again. "Told you it would be fine."

Chuck had been holding his breath through the entire dialogue, and when he heard the door shut, he let it all out in a whoosh. He inhaled deeply, grateful it went off without a hitch. Of course, that caused a loud sneeze, but since Suze was faking sick, it shouldn't cause her mom any issue. He hoped.

"Yeah. Fine. How do you get her to believe you? I never got out of it when I was younger."

"Bless you," Suze said with a smirk as she pulled off the covers with her free hand.

"I've been lying to my mom about things since I was two. Practice makes perfect after all."

"Two?!" Chuck squeaked at her and he struggled to get out from underneath the bed.

"You've been seeing dead people since you were TWO?!"

Suze tugged at his arm and helped him get out from under the bed.

"Yep. I saw one hanging around out apartment, told mom about it, she thought I was kidding around and I haven't told her anything since," she replied. "Personally, I think Haley Joel Osment was a total baby."

Chuck winced as he finally crawled the rest of the way out.

"Holy crap." Chuck marveled, flopping on the bed beside her, still clutching her hand. "I think...I'd freak out if I saw dead people."

"You freak out over most things Chuck," Suze noted. "And I mean it wasn't that bad. They look like normal people...just kind of see-through."

"That's not true!" Yes it is. It is and he knows it.

"So like...how did you wind up with this ability?"

"Uh huh. Sure," Suze said, obviously not buying it.

She shrugged a bit. "I just had it. Father Dom says it's my 'gift from God' but who knows."

He glowered at her for a moment, then blinked in surprise.

"Father Dom? Priest?"

"Yeah," Suze nodded. People did tend to be surprised when she had connections with a Catholic priest. "He's the principal at my school, but he's also a mediator. The first I'd met other than myself."

"What exactly...does that mean, again?" He couldn't remember if she'd told him, and he sprawled lazily across the bed, making sure to keep some sort of physical contact. Stupid virus, making him feel awkward.

Suze sat back against her propped up pillows, all the while still making sure to touch Chuck. No way did she want to feel that pain again.

"Basically it means ghosts come to me and I help them move on to wherever it is they're supposed to go by whatever means necessary.

"That's pretty creepy. And your preacher has the same...thing?" Creepy didn't even begin to describe it in his book.

"Yeah him too," Suze nodded. "Why's it creepy? Would you rather we just let them wander around?"
