BACKGROUND AND PERSONALITY: Yukari was once a very happy girl living with her mom and dad in Japan! Her dad was a scientist, and with the money he brought in, the family was well off. Yukari attended school and, due to her looks and personality, was quite popular! ... But of course, not all stories can have a happy ending.
Eiichiro, Yukari's father had received an offer to work for a high-end research company, and readily accepted! He promised Yukari and her mother he'd be back soon, but he never returned--instead, a letter came back, informing the family that Eiichiro had died in the explosion of one of their labs.
Needless to say, both Yukari and her mother were devastated. Wanting to get away from the country in which they lost Eiichiro, they moved to Triou. At first, everything was okay, but mother and daughter employed different techniques to try to overcome their loss. While Yukari seemed to more or less went back to her normal life, becoming the popular girl once again, even in her new school, she wasn't the same--she was depressed, but of course, never let it show; instead, she did not allow herself to get close to anyone, and masked her true feelings. Knowing that the school was owned by the same company her father had worked for didn't really help at all. Therefore, she felt some sort of animosity towards the owners, especially their daughter, who was president of the student council.
Her mother, on the other hand, tried to find solace in other men--she started dating a number of different boyfriends, none of whom were in the least bit likable. This greatly annoyed and distressed Yukari, who was ignored in lieu of these men--so, when she was scouted by a modeling company and offered a chance to work for them, she didn't hesistate to accept.
Eventually, Yukari couldn't put up with her mother any longer. She left home; her mother never even noticed. A classmate from school, Minato Arisato, was probably one of the only people Yukari trusted. His parents, who had died when he was younger, knew Yukari's father--when he learned Yukari had nowhere to go, he offered to let her stay at his house, with his aunt and uncle. Though at first she was relucant to say yes, she felt that, just maybe, Minato would be the person to break her shell and she could be true self around him. She accepted, and has been living with him ever since.
To most people, Yukari appears to be a girl who's happy with her life. She's nice, she's outgoing, and she's spunky. She thinks rationally, and always tries to come up with the best possible solution for any problem. Despite being pretty, she's definitely not stupid, and will challenge anyone who says otherwise.
However, she's not simple, either. In reality, most of her personality is a facade--on the inside, she's a depressed, angry, and lonely girl who's lost or been abandoned by everyone she holds dear to herself; it doesn't make her feel any better that people are attracted to her, because she doesn't want to get close to anyone. While she does appear to be close to people and can be quite the tease, she has few people she actually considers her friends, who understand what she's been going through.
Even when her mask is on, she's still prone to outbursts and mood swings, which can surprise people--while she's already kind of tsundere to begin with, she can snap and get really pissed off due to all the pent-up anger she represses. She also gets jealous pretty easy, which is just another thing that sets her off.
In the end, Yukari is just another lonely girl, looking for someone who can understand her. Until then, she'll do her best to play the role she's been given, and hope everything turns out right in the end.
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: Geez... has anyone else been fed up with the weather lately? It's been way too hot this week, seriously. I could definitely go for a nice weekend at the beach... too bad I'm busy, I've got a photoshoot on Saturday and an archery meet on Sunday. Maybe I'll be luckier next week. Guess I'll just have to deal with it.
Anyway, work's been pretty hectic lately. I'm surprised I haven't passed out yet or anything. Hopefully I'll at least get some new clothes out of whatever's going on Saturday--anything to help with this heat wave. I mean, come on, is it really too much to ask for a nice breeze right now...? --Oh! An e-mail from Minato? I wonder what's on his mind.
... What?! What does he mean, there's a history quiz tomorrow? When was THAT assigned? Nnnh... "I know you're busy. You can ask me if you need help." --What, who does he think I am? I can handle this! I've taken on worse before! I'll be fine. I just need to start studying now...
