I went on a date with my boyfriend last night to see There Will be Blood! (because nothing says romance like violence and pessimism, haha;))  I was so happy I got to see it, as I've been waiting and waiting for it come to my local movie theater so I could go and watch it!  Having gone to see two movies in the past two weeks at the movie theater ( Read more... )

I haven't seen There Will Be Blood, but I am looking forward to it! If it ever comes to my theater! lol I did read most of your review and it sounded really good!

I love watching the Oscars and other award shows! It's my thing to do every year too. Unlike my family, I really enjoy watching them. So you're not alone! lol I'm not sure if Atonement will win this year. It might win Best Picture, but depending on all the other nominations for Best Actress, Best Actor, etc. I'm not sure if Keira and/or James McAvoy will win. They seem a little young to win and the award might go to others. But, of course, voters could just be waiting for the Oscars to give them all the awards. I am a little disappointed that Javier Bardem has been taking away a lot of the awards because I thought Tom Wilkinson in Michael Clayton did a better job. I hope Marion gets nominated for something in foreign at the Oscars, if she doesn't get nominated for Best Actress. I, honestly, think that she beats out any other contenders with her performance in La Vien En Rose. It's absolutely flawless! Other than that, I'm not sure. :) I am looking forward to the SAGs next Sunday!

Ooh, I just read the Oscar nominations this morning in the New York Times (because I'm just geeky like that). Marion is nominated! I definitely hope she wins. The New York Times says she was one of the two that was really in contention to get the award, though, so I'm hopeful. I agree that she was amazing in "La Vie En Rose". The way she pulled off the singer's mannerisms was surprising..especially once you have seen the pictures of what she normally looks like (not much like the singer). She was so convincing and heart-breaking in her role. I can't imagine them giving it to anyone else..honestly, I haven't seen too many good actress performances lately.

Oh, and I don't know. I love Tom Wilkinson in pretty much anything (I recently saw "In the Bedroom", which he is fabulous in) but I did also really like Javier Bardem's performance in "No Country for Old Men". That would be a tough one for me...I can't decide which one I like better. However, both were very strong performances.

I do hope "Michael Clayton" gets recognized for something. I thought the movie was so well done, and it would be a shame if it slips under the radar. What did you think of "Michael Clayton"?

BTW- I don't expect "Atonement" to win for anything, really, either, in spite of how good I've heard it is. I just want to see it, is all. Historical stuff for the win! McAvoy and Keira didn't even get nominated for an Oscar..not too surprising, there. I'm glad the little girl got nominated, though. She sounds very talented.

Anyway, I hope "There Will be Blood" plays by you soon!:)

I'm very excited Marion is nominated! I was nervous for her because her film was foreign, but yay! I can't wait for the Oscars! Seeing as Ellen Page hasn't really won anything for Juno, I really hope the voters aren't going to give her the Oscar. I heard it was really good movie, but from what I've seen, Ellen doesn't match up against Marion. Marion was flawless as Edith Piaf.

I really like Michael Clayton. When I saw the movie I was kind of on an adrenline rush, so I was so hyped up during the movie and I thought it was really boring. Soon afterwards though I realized it was good. Despite the fact that I have a crush on George Clooney, I thought he was great. I love Javier, but I thought Tom Wilkinson gave more of a performance. And, I'll take Tilda Swinton over Cate Blanchett any day! lol

I am really surprised Keira and James weren't nominated! I saw a lot of people were replaced for other actors and I was a little taken back about not seeing them there. I haven't seen Atonement yet, but I heard great reviews about both of them.

I love George Clooney, so I suppose I am biased towards "Michael Clayton", as well.:)Oh, and Tilda Swilton should be nominated, I think (I can't remember if she is or not, but I thought she was right up there with Tom Wilkinson's character).

As for Keira and James not being nominated, I think it's harder to get respect for romance movies like theirs. The Oscars don't tend to appreciate romance type movies that much.

I think Tilda Swinton is nominated, I'll have to take a second look. :P

Yeah, the Oscars aren't really romance-goers, but it really seemed to be one of the top movies for nominations. I'll have to see it and give a better opinion. :P

Ooh, I just read that she is. Excellent.:)

As for the Oscar voters, they are just too set in their ways. I bet "Atonement" really deserves an oscar, though. It looks so amazing.:)I know it is still nominated for at least four or five oscars, I think, but "There Will be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men" have the most, I believe.
