Hmm, I think even if you don't like Johnny Depp, you will be able to enjoy the movie. Hah, unless his face offends you..then you are in for a hard time, as he is in most of the scenes, of course.:)
However, the overall mood and music are fantastic. I'm not sure how they compare to the musical version, though. I know what it's like to have the movie version be a letdown..even though I liked the movie "the Phantom of the Opera", it was nothing like (and nowhere as good as) the stage version.
What dvds did you get? I didn't really get any movies for Christmas, since I watch so much stuff through netflix, but I am hoping to get "Ratatouille" and maybe "Superbad" for my birthday. I still have so many movies that have been out recently that I need to see...I can hardly even try to keep up, the number of movies out is ridiculous.
I got the series "Rome" on dvd, lots of books (I got some sci-fi stuff by Phillip K. Dick and some historical stuff by Phillipa Gregory), one videogame (Tales of the Abyss or something-it's an rpg, but it uses a system similiar to that of fighting games like Dead or Alive, with combos and stuff, so it's pretty cool), and also silly things like a robe and gigantic fuzzy slippers from my mom.:)
My sister really likes the Phantom of the Opera movie, mostly because of Gerard Butler. lol But, she's a huge fan of the original book so she was a little disappointed with the movie.
I got Hot Fuzz, The Simpsons, The Office Season 3, Oceans Eleven, and a few others. I also got a few snowmen-related gifts (I love snowmen), pajamas, other stuff. It was a pretty good Christmas for me! =)
Oh yeah, I agree. I also loved the book, as well as the musical version, though they are quite different. The book has much more depth to it..but ah, I have to agree with your sister about Gerald Butler in that movie...though even when I read the book, I imagined the Phantom as hot. Haha, I have a thing for anti-heroes, I suppose.:)
And Hot Fuzz is awesome! I'm jealous, I want to get that movie to own one day myself. Same with Ocean's Eleven..none of the Ocean's movies could top the first one.:) Also, I am still catching up on "the Office" season 2. Eventually, I'll hopefully get the series on dvd...but I'll have to wait, as they are always pretty expensive. Anyway, sounds like you had an awesome Christmas to me-I'm glad it was cool for you.
I haven't read the book yet, but I think my sister has a copy.
Hot Fuzz is awesome! Except for some of the camera work, I can't figure out why Shawn of the Dead is like Hot Fuzz. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are so funny together! Season 2 of The Office was so funny! But, I don't know which season is my favorite. :P
Ooh really? Did you not like Shaun of the Dead as much? That's interesting. For most people, I think it's the other way around (that's how it is for me, though only by a smidgen-I still really, really love "Hot Fuzz"). Oh, and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are the perfect team for a buddy movie. I've never seen Nick Frost in anything before, but I thought he did a wonderful job.
Also, Season 2 is great! I love all the episodes so much, it's hard to pick a favorite...though the Christmas Party episode is definitely a classic! Ooh, or the episode were Angela and Dwight get together and you just see their feet twitching in the garage. Squicky, but somehow above hilarious. Just thinking about those two as a couple (or Dwight with anyone) cracks me up. Two more episodes left...and then I'm done!
Oh no, I love Shaun of the Dead. It was just beside the simliar camera work, I can't figure out why a lot of people said Shaun of the Dead was the same as Hot Fuzz. :)
I love season two and Dwight and Angela as a couple is funny. Rainn and Angela work so well together. I also like season two for the build-up of Pam and Jim. John Krasinski is so good!
Aww, I love the build-up between Pam and Jim, especially on the boat episode...heh, it was the first time where for, a brief second, when the boss was talking to Jim, he seemed halfway nice. Hahaa.:)
And I want those two to get together so bad! Gah, the ways they keep being silly about liking each other is frustrating....but it definitely keeps me glued to the tv, at the same time. They are both such decent people..but she, especially, seems to be a bit stupid when it comes to romance. Heh, her fiance was such an @ssssmonkey.
Oh, and who is Rainn? Is that the actor who plays Dwight?
Yeah, Michael can be really naive. I think when he's mean or hurts other people's feelings, he doesn't quite understand what he's doing. Michael isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. :P
Roy was an @ssmonkey. I just watched another episode from season two and I don't know how Pam stayed with him for three years. I don't think I would have.
Haha, oh. I knew that. For a minute there, I was thinking Angela got with another guy, and I was like nooooo way...Angela actually has romance with more than one person throughout the show?! It isn't possible...she's too..bitchy.;)
Roy is such an @ssmonkey. Gah, during the boat episode, I just wanted to smack him upside the head. Or, better yet, have Pam smack him upside the head. I would PAY to see that.
The way he kept drinking and flirting with Jim's girlfriend, that cheerleader. It seemed to me that he only proposed again to Pam that night because he was drunk.
That would have been funny! Pam seemed so stuck in her ways though. She had been with Roy for so long, I don't think she knew how to leave him and maybe find someone else. Roy did seem drunk as a skunk that night, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was a little loopy all the time. Considering him, his brother and the other warehouse workers were always going out to bars. :P
Oh yeah, Pam is definitely stuck in her ways. I also remember that other episode where she was thinking of going to NY for art classes or something, and just couldn't leave work to do it. Silly girl.:)
As for Roy, he probably is trashed all the time..hah hah hah. I just started Season 3, and the way he keeps randomly showing up wherever Pam is (at an Indian party, etc.) is really starting to creep me out. He has become a stalker!
Heh, I had no idea Roy told her she couldn't go! Gaaaaah. Idiot. He just wants her to stay at home as his wife and shine his shoes, you know it. Jerk.
And he is such a stalker...though I'm in season 3, where Jim has got a new girlfriend and him and his gf are back at the company. I hope that doesn't mean Pam goes back to jerkface. EEEE.
