Thinky Thoughts, and reviving the journal through opinion! This week: Of plots and pain.

Ok, so, anyone who has ever know me has found put that while I'm notoriously bad about posting, I can comment up a storm. That's mostly because, while I'm very opinionated, I have pretty much the attention span of a bug. But I digress! (and so early on, too)

Now, here's the thing. I think I'm gonna try to revive my LJ, with metas and the occasional rant (dust off my soapbox, so to speak), and random information about myself in a bide to get some random information about you guys.

See, maybe I should have started this way: I like conversation. I like debates, and I like disagreeing and hearing different ideas, and, weird as it might be, I like it when people call me on my BS. Because it makes me think, makes me dissect my thoughts, and I either come out stronger or enlightened, and yey! for learning something new! Also, I'm interested on other people's thoughts to the point of weirdness.

So, I'd like to issue an invitation. From now on, I'll use this journal... well, to ramble. And I'd like to invite you to ramble too, to use the comments section as a place to kick back and talk to each other. A playground, if you will.

So, I'll start with an actual topic. I love, love lovelove books and movies. I read a lot of the former, and watch a lot of the later, and I have found out the most interesting thing. If there's one thing I loathe in story telling is the sense that you have wasted my time. Which is actually maybe my greatest issue with SPN's latest season, and with Harry Potter. In SPN's case, I feel cheated because they based the main chunk of the season on a premise, only to throw it away in the last few eps and go with something completely different. I felt like I'm left standing there with all these expectations that have nowhere to go, and wondering why, if this wasn't actually relevant in the long run, I was made to pay attention. It's the same issue I have with Harry Potter: I felt that it was one step back every two forward:

Book: Oh, here's a magic spell that will undo all of this
Me: Oh. Well. Then why inform me that it happened in the first place?
Book: Oh, here's another spell that will render the last pages completely irrelevant
Me: What, again?
Book: Oh, I forgot to mention there are no consequences to this last few actions either! Tis'  magic!
Me: ...

If there are no consequences, if it can all be undone with a word, if it can be magically fixed... what's the point? No one learned anything, no one grew. nothing changed. And if nothing changed... well, there's no story, I think.

What do you guys think? What do you like or dislike in your stories?
