An Idea From Rossetti

Jul 17, 2008 14:56

This poem was inspired by Christina Rossetti's "Goblin Market", which I had to write an essay on my first year of college. If you've studied this poem, my own poem will make a lot more sense. I will say only that the "goblin men" are really not goblins at all.

‘We must not look at goblin men’
You say it, don’t deny
But look how pretty, standing there
A sparkle in their eye

They call to us and whistle
With sweet voices do they cry
And we can not help but hear them
No matter how we try

But no, they’re not for us to see
As we quickly shuffle by
Our eyes downcast and faces turned
Not tempted? That’s a lie

Also, the observant would have by now noticed that the "Current Music" I pick has some relation to the poem I post that day. So does the "Current mood". I don't know if today's song really fits as well as some of the other's have, but it was the best I could find. I suppose 'goblins' and fairytales somehow go together.
