I don’t think I’ve ever been this awake at 4:30 am before (or 5 as it appears to be now I’ve finished typing this up)
Guh
Okay, where to begin?
MOLLY KICKED ARSE! Seriously, who though Molly would be the one to single headedly kill Bellatrix Lestrange? Best thing ever.
Not only that, but Neville kicked arse and McGonagall did so as well. While I was disappointed by the quantity of the appearances of those two characters, the quality of their appearances certainly made up for it.
Adored Ron throughout the book, though I always adore Ron. Actually liked Dobby (Dobby! *sob*), Kretcher and Hagrid’s appearances, they were all well utilized (also in same vein I liked Dudley, but I’ve always had somewhat of soft spot for Dudley).
Crabbe and Goyle really differentiated themselves.
And so did Fred and George for that matter. (Fred! *sob*)
I’m glad we finally got to find out who the Muggle Studies teacher was, even thought it was rather tragic circumstances. And we got to meet Andromeda and Ted (Ted! *sob*)
I had my doubts about a non-Hogwarts based Horocrux hunting plot, but I think my doubts have been silenced, it worked really well (though I would hardly call living in a wizarding tent living rough. If bunks are involved, it’s not rough).
I was quite shocked at the amount of usage by the good characters of unforgivable curses. I thought JKR would shy away from having good characters cast them, but obviously not. Though nobody spits at McGonagall!
Percy lives! And is good! I knew he had it in him.
Umbridge! I’ve always maintained she’s a more interesting villain than Voldemort and it’s good to see the bitch is back.
So if Hermione was Mafalda Hopkirk, does that mean we’re getting Jessica Hynes running around in the seventh movie playing Hermione? - Awesome.
RAB really wasn’t as important as I thought he was going to be. I have fallen in love with the character though, since he drank the potion himself (and was killed by zombies - always an endearing point).
I was totally right about the Malfoys turning as soon as it was in their self interest. Love their ending, just sitting at the table hoping to be ignored. It’s quite sweet how they all made it out alive in the end. Loved the way in which Harry saved Draco’s life. Loved the Draco wand twist.
I was reading Wuthering Heights a couple of weeks ago and thought to myself that Lily could the Catherine to Snape’s Heathcliff, and it sort of turned out that way (though Heathcliff and Catherine are way way way more fucked up than Snape and Lily). I’m really glad Snape was good all along; because of the somewhat anti-climatic way he died it really would have been lame to just have him turn out to be Voldemort’s man all along. However, I thought his death was kid of lame and would be more emotionally involving it the revelation as to loyalties and love have come pre-death, I think.
I’m really shocked I didn’t guess the owner of the Doe Patronus though, particularly since I made such a big deal out of the Tonk-Snape Patronus conversation in HBP.
I feel I should say something about Remus and Tonks. Really what can I say about Remus and Tonks without sounding somewhat wanky? I always knew Remus was a bit of a patronising selfish dick, but walking out on his pregnant wife? His pregnant wife who’s parents are being targeted by Death Eaters, is hunted herself by her aunt, probably lost her job, probably is feeling a bit shit about being not so physically capable any more due to pregnancy in the middle of a war and just lost her mentor (Mad-Eye *snob* - though hah! I was right. I always wrote Tonks as Mad-Eye’s protégée) - that is pretty fucking low. I don’t think I’ve ever liked Harry as much as in the moment he was giving Remus shit for that move.
And Tonks, well, she really didn’t get to do much, did she? Except for show off a ring, got confined, ran around worrying about her no-good husband, and then die - off-screen with not explanation for how or who. I think I’m more than a bit disappointed. I’m very disappointed she took Remus back. His arse would be on the curb if I had a say.
And that’s really all I have for now. I’ll probably think of some other stuff in the morning. Or afternoon. Or whenever I wake up.
So in conclusion
Molly = Awesome
Remus = Dickwad
Deathly Hallows = Has a brilliant and suprising plot, is satisfying and entertaining but comes with a side of guh and WTF
