Evolution of the Daleks
Holy crap! That was brilliant! I don't ever think I've ever liked Ten so much.
Once they killed off the two Daleks I wondered what else the story could do, thinking there was another 20 minutes or so to go. It was a complete shock to find out I'd been sitting there for 40 minutes.
Lazlo and Tallulah lived! Though I have to admit, I started hoping that Lazlo would kick the bucket so that Tallulah would be free to get a trip in the Tardis (add her to the gigantic list of characters I wished were companions).
Martha was awesome, especially for telling off the Doctor for ordering her around. But far more awesome was the Doctor. I've never been a big fan of shouty!Doctor, but it actually worked this week. This episode Ten seemed to be really messed up, a bit manic depressive. He seemed to genuinely suicidal this episode, and DT really sold it. I think this is the best episode for Ten as a character yet. I wonder if he's going to become more unhinged as the season goes on. It be an interesting contrast to Nine who became more healthy as his season progressed.
Not that I think that the Doctor should yell at monsters to kill him every episode, only when the Daleks show up because of the history.
I was really sceptical about the evolution storyline and that worked as well. Sec became what could have been an awful plotline that makes fans cringe to a genuinely tragic character. I was rooting for his plan to start up a new Dalek planet, just like the Doctor until I remembered that they had killed off a whole bunch of humans in order to create their Human-Daleks. Meanwhile, with the ending, the Daleks remained the evil creatures we know iconize.
Loved the Doctor getting electrocuted clinging to the pole. Loved pig slaves calmly waiting in the elevator. Loved Solomon getting killed off after one of his heavy handed speeches (found those really annoying).
And no way in hell was 1930s anywhere, never mind just New York, not racist, sexist and anti Dalek-pig slave.
And next week's the Lazarus Experiment, which I've been really looking forward too. Not quite sure why.
