I've got to stop reading set reports for the filming of the second season of Game of Thrones. All I end up doing is fretting that they're going to ruin my favourite storylines and characters and it is not good for me.
I've now officially fallen for Once Upon A Time. If watching a television show is like entering a relationship, I'm at the stage of buying a second toothbrush to keep around at their place. I found myself getting misty-eyed and sniffly at the end of the last episode, misty-eyed and sniffly at a romance plotline involving two characters, neither of which are my favourite. To me that's a sign that the show's a keeper.
Plus I love Regina so much. Yes, she's still my favourite. The Evil Queen I'm not that fussed about, but in her real world incarnation is so much fun. They've given her all the evil trimmings: the black clothes, the evil eyeliner, the archness, and best of all, an evil theme that starts playing whenever she shows up in a scene. But at the same time, she's fun because she's not really that evil, so thus far, I'm feeling guilt free for liking her. The Evil Queen, yes, has done some proper villainous stuff, but Regina's just an a bit of an cold control freak, who happens to be evil overlord of a lovely little town in which nobody seems to be being horribly oppressed, and while she's not going to win a mother of the year prize any time soon and the sad fact she's never bonded with her son has created a really horrible situation for Henry (and her too), the most evil thing she's done is use her power to frame Emma.
Anyway, my theory of the week is that she's going to turn out to be a red herring like Snape in the Philosopher's Stone. Sure she cast the curse, but something else will be going on as she's not the big bad. I really don't want her to be the evil that must be destroyed, I just want her to side with the good but remain a deliciously unpleasant person. Plus, there's way more potential for storylines if she's not the great evil, for example, I'd love if the season ends with her breaking her resolve and deciding to allow and encourage Henry bonding with Emma and Mary Margaret upon realising that they can give him the emotional support she's not capable of providing, while still firmly retaining her place as his mother, creating a odd family.
I was a bit disappointed with the last episode of Sanctuary. Problem was, it was good, but it was just good and given that it was a Tesla episode and the A-plot was about him, Magnus and Henry which is a winning mix of characters, it should have been better. Still, the scene in which Henry tells Tesla that he (Henry) is going to be a dad and it all proud about it, was completely adorable. I love Henry. The B-plot however, caught me completely off guard and surprised the hell out of me. Kudos to the show for managing that.
The
Kiss From A Rose/Jesus Loves Marijuana/hulu girls/shadow puppet montage/mash-up on Community may actually be the funniest musical moment ever. I was laughing to the point of crying.
This episode made me wonder if Jeff is being written as suffering from depression this season. He's not been in a good place all season, but the lack of fight in him this episode seemed to be the most glaring hint at depression. If the show goes down that route, and, more importantly if it pulls it off and avoids taking it too flippantly or alternatively, given that it's a comedy, making it too special episode-y, it will get my achieve my eternal love and gratitude.
Finally, I know that Downton Abby is having a Christmas special. My flatmate and I have decided on its ideal plot: Lord Grantham gets visited by three ghosts. They all slap him. The end.
