I liked Sunshine! ...okay, so I thought Meatman was absurd and the movie had enough organic conflict before he came around to kick over all introspection, but still, I liked it! It would definitely made a pretty vid.

AND SO WOULD TOY STORY. Though I think you might be required by law to like You've Got a Friend in Me. (The rest of the series music is unnecessary. ESPECIALLY THAT DAMN SARAH MACLACHLAN SONG UGH. So much worse than Newman could ever be.)

Yeah, Sunshine could have gone without the Meatman - the film did sort of shoot its wonderful premise in the foot by going down the slasher route in the last act, and given the similar third acts of the The Beach and 28 Days Later..., Danny Boyle seemed to be repeating himself (thank goodness he's gotten out of that pattern now).

I dunno. I really can't stand Randy Newman, although I suppose that song does have a tinny little bit of nostalgia value which justifies its continued existence to an extent. But all the rest: bleh, and that includes the Sarah MacLachlan song which was written by Newman.

I didn't know who it was written by. I don't think it really matters, honestly, I'm just allergic to Sarah MacLachlan. Sung by someone else, it might just be another unnecessary and ignorable non-You've Got a Friend in Me song in the trilogy. But you get her involved and oh god, the pain. The sappy, sappy pain.
