Much Ado and the Millennium trilogy

I've just been cleaning out the my fridge. Having emptied out four half eaten, now mouldy pots of hummus, I have come to the conclusion that I buy too much hummus.

I think everybody's aware of my epic love of the duo Tennant and Tate (even their names go together well), and yes I desperately want to go see Much Ado About Nothing. Not only has ( Read more... )

I just finished reading the Millennium Trilogy *yesterday* and I've been thinking I need to see those movies. I'm with you on the optimism in the stories. The books are so uncompromising in its various depictions of violence and misogyny that I had to books down quite a number of times. But I managed to speed through the end, when everything was coming together, y'know?

Another reason to watch the films: I can find out how the hell everyone's names are pronounced. *head-slap*

Yes, after all the brutality and horror (the first movie in particular has one incredibly brutal scene of sexual violence), I loved how the trilogy drew to a close - with some many characters banding around Lisbeth and each playing their part in helping her. It's a wonderful statement about society and humanity, that the majority will not stand by and accept for horrors inflicted by the minority, and that they'll do their best to end them and do what they can to right the wrongs.

I'm really hopeful they will film it - there'd probably be a big enough call and as it's Shakespeare, there'd be educational benefit to justify it.

I'm less worried about Lisbeth's back story, and more worried they'll make Lisbeth and Mikael's relationship into romantic love story - which I would hate.
