For Game of Cards: Challenge #18 "Five by Five"

4. Package, pebble, roof, schedule, university

Summary: Secret Agent!Dorian has to pick up a package at the drop site at the University of Minrathous on the roof of Darinius Hall. Everything does not end up how he wanted. How he expected? Yes. But call him an optimist if he had hoped for something better than a trap.

The drop was taking place at the University of Minrathous. Dorian shuddered at the severe idiocy of the action. A group of college students were interested in aiding Dorian’s agency in reforming Tevinter government. They had tried to remain anonymous when they set everything up. If Dorian was not a first class spy who had identified the group before he was contacted, then them setting up the drop point in the university proper on top of Darinius Hall’s roof would have been a dead giveaway.

Dorian looked at his watch. The students were late. Hardly anything new, students are masters of procrastination and tardiness. The spy huffed before kicking at a pebble at his feet. He stood on the roof of the building like they wanted. Of course he came prepared for a trap. These people were just too idiotic for Dorian’s tastes, it would be highly unlikely that they had gotten their hands on the package they said they did. The package, that Dorian was so patiently waiting for, would contain documents with black mail material for a third of Magisterium.

Letting himself be open to a trap was worth the tiny chance that the students had compiled this information themselves. The seconds ticked by and students were horrendously behind schedule now. Dorian shook his head before turning to the roof access. He reached for the handle to the door that would lead him inside the building when a glint of light reflected off the door, catching Dorian’s eye.

He ducked immediately and tumbled to the cover of an air vent just as a bullet whizzed past his head and struck the door.

”Venhedis,” Dorian hissed. He tried to get a good enough angle from behind his cover to ID the shooter.

Across the way on a building slightly taller then Darinius Hall, Dorian could just make out a big hulking figure. With horns. The figure waved a big meaty hand at Dorian.

Dorian grit his teeth, in part because he recognized the visage of a Qunari and also because of the audacity of the shooter. This was not a fight he could win easily. Especially if it came to blows. And not the type Dorian preferred to mix with business.

With a put upon sigh, Dorian executed his escape plan R. The brute had given him too much time alone on the roof to not have an escape plan from every angle. “Savages,” Dorian muttered as he escaped to safety.
