Conversation 003 [Video]

[Kanaya is staring intently into the SFC, holding it near enough to her face that nothing above her head can be seen.]

I take it then that most of us have awoken with our ordinary attire disappeared? And our other personal belongings have similarly absconded? Is this one of those "curses" I have heard references to?

[The SFC is pulled further ( Read more... )

Do you make a habit of meddling?

[Keyword and icon are relevant. A flat, faintly annoyed stare meets this newcomer's gaze.]

I don't think meddling is the word if the people in question appreciate the help. And... I've been trying to ask before providing help.

[Yes. Kanaya's attempt to evade the remark was ineffective.]

[Step off. Just trying to assist in your quest to figure out that username. Hajime for one is holding the SFC so his stats can't be seen.]

That's meddling.

[Your shyness does not assist her in regarding him positively. Also, by that definition, would his offer of assistance be meddling? She's going to eye the SFC with a hope of seeing anything above your head, and not be subtle about it.]

I think that definition is subject to debate. But anyway the irritation I have with the title is that it is a specific and fairly private reference that I don't appreciate being broadcast like this. It hasn't even been used since I came to Vatheon...

[...oh. I guess it would be. But Hajime being a hypocrite is nothing new. Oh, and for the record, he is so not talking about himself.]

You're not the only one with something personal floating above your head.

[This is clearly why his is zoomed in the way it is. That bit of narration is somehow difficult to believe.]

No, I have come to that realization after conversations with several others. But there is no shortage of titles that are either innocuous or simply nonsensical. The uneven distribution of personal revelations is irritating.

[Tsun has involved into angry tsun!]

Hey. You mean not everybody has a completely ridiculous name?

[Oh good, now they can bond in their annoyance over the matter.]

It depends on your definition of ridiculous. The people I've talked to about this so far had "Rainbowarch," "silversandwich," "witchofthedorm," and "heirconditioner" respectively. All somewhat odd, but two of them found the names clearly relevant to them, and two found them to be nonsensical.

[Let's do it, girlfriend.]

I don't understand any of them. [...] "heirconditioner" isn't so bad.

He seemed to feel it was a pun, based on his role as the "heir of breath," and the use of wind in air conditioner machines. I didn't find the joke to be as obvious as he did, but maybe it's just me.

I understand it now. That kind of conditioner. It's not a very good pun, is it?

[Suddenly he's lost interest.]

[Oops. Perhaps another time then.]

It was not as amusing as the severity of his laughter would have implied, and I don't think he was laughing at any irony of the joke being poor. Unfortunate all around, really.

I don't know that many of these are based on puns anyway. Its as though there were multiple forces deciding on them; some with puns of various quality, some commenting on the personalities of the people tagged with them, and some simply arbitrarily choosing words or combinations of letters with no meaning at all.

A moderate number certainly.

A lot of people seem to think that the best thing to do upon discovering the effects of this curse is to post video logs of themselves asking what has happened, rather than looking through the other logs for the relevant answers. So I've been replying to a few messages.

[He nods. Kanaya, you are a girl after his own heart.]

I've noticed that. It's shameful how many act before they think.

If they were all new arrivals like myself it would be easier to understand, at least. But when a few have mentioned experiencing previous curses, I don't see how they expected the rest of us to have any more information than they did, except by accumulating information and sharing it as we went.

Shameful is not a bad word for it.
