Conversation 003 [Video]

[Kanaya is staring intently into the SFC, holding it near enough to her face that nothing above her head can be seen.]

I take it then that most of us have awoken with our ordinary attire disappeared? And our other personal belongings have similarly absconded? Is this one of those "curses" I have heard references to?

[The SFC is pulled further ( Read more... )

[Above Cielo's head is the following:

RainbowArch
Lvl 1 Sage
H.P. 100% Mana 100%
Lives Remaining 3]

Got no clue what it means, but... tings ain't right.

[He can't change form, for one.]

[She stares at the SFC for a moment to read his title.]

Yours seems innocuous to me. Unless there is some reference to yours that I lack the necessary information to comprehend it, at least. Mine is... not quite an insult, but certainly a bit of a jab at me.

[Kanaya takes a moment to reach to her side and draw her new katana, making a few practice swipes at the air.]

Do you have any idea what a "samurai" or "sage" in the context of these might be? I'm finding this sword remarkably easy to wield...

I couldn't say. I don't got any more idea dan you do.

I didn't get a sword like dat... Kinda jealous, really. I got dis staff ting.

[And robes, but he doesn't mind that so much.]

Had I known about this beforehand, I would have expected there would be a guide or explanation of sorts around somewhere. A guide or walkthrough or some kind of information, presented in some form. Instead it seems we'll all be learning via trial by error.

[This is a bit of an annoyance. She likes having guides available to these games of life and death.]

Hmm. A simple plain staff might be used in combat, but the more elaborate sorts seem to have some other function to them. Perhaps it is a magic staff? Have you tried to do anything with it?

...You may not want to be near anything flammable if you do try.

Uh... I'm not sure. I t'ink it's just a staff? I mean, maybe I can t'wack someone wit' it.

[He gives it a couple taps against the ground, but nothing happens.]

Do staffs usually do sumtin'?

[Kanaya's expression switches immediately to unimpressed. After she explicitly told him to move away from anything flammable, he hits the ground near his feet. What if it had lit on fire? What would he have done? The lack of foresight is astounding.]

Hmm. Perhaps it is more of a quarterstaff then, and you will find yourself becoming increasing strong and agile. If you proceed with completing quests at least, as my understanding goes.

I assumed it was like a friend's wands, and allowed spells to be cast through it. I don't really know how magic works, so I wouldn't know what would need to happen for that. You could try asking a few of the others if they know anything; there are no shortage of videos going up of people showing off their new outfits, and at least one of them is familiar with situations like this.

Wait, what? Spells? I nevuh needed ta cast spells t'rough a weapon before.

[He'd had to change forms first, though, which... he currently can't do.]

...Quests?

But it seems that all our abilities are being shifted into those relevant to these slightly altered forms, in accordance with our "classes." You may find that you can still cast spells in a different way, or that you're unable to do so for the duration of the curse.

I don't really know either. I assume that some of it would involve solving riddles and killing given amounts of monsters, but thankfully I haven't yet seen any monsters roaming around the city. I heard a few strange references to the pirate ship, though.

Huh... I hadn't really tried castin' anytin' yet. You t'ink I should?

[Before waiting for a reply, he thinks up something non-fire related to try out. How to do this as a human...

A small bolt of electricity arches out from his fingers to catch the corner of his sofa.

Which then proceeds to catch on fire. He'd forgotten electricity could do that too.]

Whoops! [Don't mind him, he'll just be beating that out with a nearby throw pillow before it spreads too far.]

[Kanaya's face is now in her hand, and she shakes a little from quieting the irritated remarks that come to mind. Why hadn't he just gone for a water spell? ...Is that fire spreading?!]

Perhaps you might try another spell, one that would summon water instead! To ensure there are no sparks lingering to relight whenever you depart that area!

But I don't use watuh spells! Just ice ones!

[The fire hadn't been that big anyway, and is sufficiently beaten out soon enough. He examines the damage, frowning a little and the slight charring. He supposes it gives it character.]

Unless you t'ink I should know sumtin' different now?

My experience thus far is that these "classes" override our ordinary skills. You may find that you are capable of far different spells and abilities than are ordinary for you.

Classes?

So how do you tell what class you be?

meddlefussyfang June 9 2011, 07:30:46 UTC
Um

[She blinks at him to check if he's speaking an honest question. Maybe he's been actually focusing on her face and not noticing the words above her head? A cheerful smile appears!]

There should be words above your head. Look up at them if you can, or in two reflective surfaces if you can't. The format appears to be that of a username, followed by your "level" and "class." Mine is evidently samurai, if that helps you locate yours.

Oh. [As if he knows that half that nonsense means!]

It be sayin' sage, I t'ink.

A sage is... what is dat?

I actually spoke with another pla--person who received sage as his class. He described an ability with healing magic as well as some elemental magic. Like the lightning you just generated, I presume.
