Updates! Because for whatever reason I am attempting to resurrect my lj. With blogging. Go figure.
1. I am forever destined to suffer food poisoning via un(der)cooked chicken. In my defense, I wasn't the one who cooked the chicken this time. Fortunately for McDonald's, the store manager's immediate offer of new, properly cooked chicken and mcnuggets and some hot fries, coupled with a sworn oath to NEVER LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN means I'm not going to file a complaint. I can handle a bit of food poisoning, horrid as it is. The little kids that were also at that particular store at that time? Probably couldn't.
2. I AM GOING TO EUROPE IN ONE WEEK I am so excited but SO FRIGGIN STRESSED. The flight Kris and I were going to take from Rome to Paris fell through so it's last minute scrambling all over the place. Patrick is a godsend, stg, finding us another flight so quickly, if for nearly $100 more. As long as we get up to Paris in good time, I'll take just about anything.
3. Cosplayed an Ancestor this year for AN, and was so very happy to see Companions everywhere. There was one (two?) other Ancestors, but they were around Friday and Saturday, when my costume was not quite complete and so I didn't get to meet them properly. Got one hell of a hug from a Companion, though, so everything is happy.
4. God do I miss KHR. I'm trying to think of things to do in the meantime, but there are no new books that I want to read, no games I'm interested in playing, no things I want to make. The house is clean, I'm basically packed.... Need moar KHR. Probably going to start re-reading it. Anyone with me?
4.1 I just realized how ineffectual it is to ask a question, as almost everyone on my flist is just... gone. Thankfully I've found most of you on tumblr, but. Ha. Talking to myself.
5. Years and years ago I did thought a Stupid Thing that isn't actually stupid but has been stuck in my head ever since. Basically it's a crossover from hell, born from my love of the Drakengard series and the SG series and I had just started reading the Inheritance Series, so. Think I might have posted about it waaaaay back in one of those plunny posts. Finally decided to try and write some of it? Hahaha, this isn't going to end well.
Sky Child
Original question:
Eris was an amazingly terrifying goddess of Greek mythology, had a hand in some of the most famous and infamous events in the mythos (ohai Troy). You would think that there might be some mention of her, at least, in SG-verse, but there is absolutely nothing. Clearly she is no longer a player in Goa'uld politics, but why?????
Plunny answer: Eris did the Goa'uld thing, kidnap some people and find a cool planet to settle them down as her people/slaves. She happened to pick a planet that was slightly more inimical to foreign conquerors than previously thought. The original peoples--Grotesqueries, called gods, and Dragons, and other races--decided that they would have to Do Something about her. (Meanwhile they didn't care much about the humans because clearly a slave race and hey they can be our slaves after we deal with these other weirdos.) Considering that she couldn't back out from this conquering thing (reputation, respect, losing her slaves, not wanting to fight-o! with other Goa'uld to gain a homeworld), Eris promptly engaged her Jaffa into Doing Something about the natives, and there was a fucktonne of back-and-forth and fighting and warring and murdering and Secret Plots. The usual.
Finally Team Eris came up with some crazy idea to take one of their shields and use it to make a giant cage thing within which they could trap the Natives, and centered it on one of the continents. She tried to lure said Natives to the supposed battle ground, but only some of the population showed up (not everyone was as stupid as Eris would have liked). The resulting battle damaged the land so much and killed so many that Eris grabbed some of her slaves, a few Jaffa, and those Natives who saw the damage and said fuck this, found a decent portion of land that wasn't too badly damaged, and set up the shield over said portion of land (assuming that everything everywhere was approximately as dead/destroyed as the rest of the continent, ergo this being the only livable patch of life left, use the shield to keep other out of their little paradise). Considering the circumstances, Eris promptly tried to rule as a proper Goa'uld, failed (herself and a few Jaffa against a fucktonne of slaves and Natives that could kick her ass five ways to Sunday, no thanks), and abandoned her host to the Fires of Doom, finding someone new and deciding to lay low. (Becoming a sort-of Tok're in the process? Not being against Re, but the more symbiosis aspect--new host would rather die and take Eris with her than be ruled as per usual Goa'uld standards.)
Meanwhile, those remaining outside the shield quickly realized that, oh yeah, can't really get in, can't really live out here. WHERE GO, WHAT DO??? The Grotesqueries were pretty adamant about staying on the same continent, WE CAN RULE AS GODS NOW AHAHAHA, and everyone else were more than happy to leave said Grotesqueries to it. The Dragons and other Natives and whatnot knew exactly where to go (a continent on pretty much the other side of the planet), but the humans took quite a bit longer to figure it out, build ships, and get over there. (Insert Alagaesia's history here.)
Eris spent the next x-years (hundreds? thousands?) biding her time, waiting for the opportune moment to Regain Her Glory, basically being a friendly, mischievous, slightly megalomaniacal voice in the back of the minds of the daughters of what eventually evolved to be a noble house. But over the last couple hundred/thousand years the shield that separated the Promised Land from the destroyed rest of the world had grown weaker, until one of the Grotesqueries managed to find a crack--not enough to get through, but enough to influence a young girl. Realizing that with the shield breaking it was now or never, Eris made a jump to the youngest daughter of her family's house, just as said daughter was nearly killed, and leaving Eris as effectively sole survivor of the family and sole owner of the girl's body. Time to shine--but subtly, as all these years had taught her. (Insert Drakengard here.)
And then Eris basically becomes queen without actually being queen and is awesome and idk somehow finds a way to basically live forever and be awesome forever. And at some point may or may not have a kid who is therefore harsesis but (first ending????) Eris is the Goddess so she can't have a kid and sends him away. And he eventually ends up in Alagaesia. And for a long, long time I shipped Eris/Nowe so hard you have no idea, and the idea of a know-it-all brat who is also part dragon in Alagaesia during this shit with Galbatorix makes me laugh so hard ohgod. Yes, this whole thing is just to see what would happen if someone who is part-Dragon ended up in Alagaesia.
(I know that technically the same part-god part-dragon combo can also be achieved by the Nowe/Manah ship, except then it would be Grotesquerie!god instead of Goa'uld!god and that is a lot less palatable to me. Also, Eris is my forever favourite, and honestly ending 1 is one of my favorites if only because it means that Eris, while technically in a crapshoot position afterwards, is basically queen of the Districts and that is all that I wanted from this game. Nowe would not be able to lead, Manah is forevereverever a crazy lady who should not lead as far as I'm concerned, and Seere is adorable but forever stuck in the body of a kid and no matter how mature will never really be someone with the sheer physical power that is needed to lead a place and people like the Districts. So.)
