Well, I figure since I posted this over on my dA account a while ago, I might as well do an update here.
SO.
I was--officially--drop-kicked out of the ConEd programme, though I'm still in for my Honours Bachelor of Arts: Classical History. Simply put, the Laurentian School of Education does NOT allow probation for students in second year and above (only first year), meaning you have to maintain a 75% average OR ELSE. [First year, you can get on probation unless your final 30-credit mark drops below a 65%. Even if it's 64.9%, that's still not 65%, so you'd be out, anyways.]
(And since a lot of stuff happened, both to me, personally, and family problems in the last year, I didn't exactly pass all my courses, and therefore did not manage a 75, and so~)
This is, mind you, ignoring the fact that I'm currently working on another 15 credits with a term average of 94% (at this moment: I still have two 2500-word essays due by my mom's birthday, my 2nd STATs assignment, and final exams for all three courses). [But School of Ed does not care about the summer term. Only the Fall/Winter terms. Bah.]
Not to say that I'm sad: I'm actually happy. Almost ecstatic. Because ConEd takes up WAY too much of your time (or, with my teacher it did: I had to do LESSON PLANS?! FTW?!), and the courses required for it are some of the most labour-intensive courses you can take at Laurentian. Academically, it's often more reading than even HISTORY; presentations are practically a weekly occurance; the LEGWORK involved in not only doing your placement but the research and resources and, again, TIME.... Most courses tend to be heavy in one area or another; ConEd takes the WORST of all the above and throws them all in together.
And besides that, it means I get to have FUN with my courses this year. That's right: no chosing stupid courses that I'm only taking because the department says so. The courses, even--ESPECIALLY--the ones required for my new major (History versus Classical History: gimme Greece and Rome ANY DAY) are AMAZING and I have so much more freedom regarding what I take...!
The basic course list is as follows:
Fall Term (Sept-Dec)
Classics: The Ancient Novel
Classics: Greek History
Geography: Introduction to Cartography
* Greek: Introduction to Classical Greek (language)
* ComSci: Computer Application Software (programming)
Winter Term (Jan-Apr)
Religion: Death and Immortality in Western Religions
Classics: Greek Art and Archaeology
Classics: Roman History
* Courses marked with an astrics (sp?) are full-year courses and so are taken in both terms, starting in the fall with final exams with the winter term course exams
AND I've scheduled it so that not only are Fridays off, but Thursdays end at 1 pm! (Okay, 2:30 for the Winter term, and Tuesdays have the same schedule, but ANYWAYS~)
Soooo... this is a huge load off my shoulders. Now, I just need to actually finish my assignments and KICK ASS on the courses I'm taking right now, and we'll allll be good. :D
[My relief is such that I'm starting to feel like creative writing again. THIS. IS SWEET. :XD:]
