Doctor Who catch-up

Dec 30, 2009 13:54

In the midst of end-of-the-year on-line exchanges of fanworks (and, you know, actual off-line holidays), I finally caught up on the Doctor Who specials. Spoilers follow:

"Waters of Mars": Kind of creepy. I can't decide if the inerior helmet lighting of the Doctor's spacesuit was accidental, subtle, or anvilicious, or if I'm reading too much into it. As he's reluctantly making his way to the TARDIS while the Mars crew is packing up, his face is lit to look like a skull, y/n? Also, I might have choked up a bit as the Doctor reveals the future to Adelaide as "consolation".

"End of Time, part 1": I love Wilf a bunch, and his coordinated neighborhood effort to find the Doctor. Did the ep need that much padding to have us watch the Doctor and Master play cat-and-mouse in a quarry construction site, or the Master devouring an entire roasted chicken? (Great job, foley people, on the latter.) I both liked and was frustrated by the cafe scene. The "I'm going to die, too."/"Don't you dare." was touching, but I yelled at the screen at "Everything I am dies." Argh -- at this point, this might not be a bad thing.

I did respond with "The greater good!" during Timothy Dalton's scene at the end. :)

I know I won't be able to see part 2 for a few days afterwards, but I fully intend on using these bingo cards when I do. (Small spoilers, but mostly educated guesses.)
