My tentmates are an interesting bunch, but you wouldn’t guess that by looking at the demographics of the tent. Average age approximately 52, average weight 220lbf, average number of trips to the bathroom in a single night is two. They’re government civilians (like me) and most are also army vets; the oldest first enlisted in 1958. Aside from the ( Read more... )

Malaria pills, dreams and play. elfich47 October 26 2003, 19:00:14 UTC
Do the Malaria pills have any side effects (stated or not) that could be causing (or masking) this? Also do you have any types of stress that could be manifesting in your dreams? Don't go Dream Analysis on everything... but are there types of stress that you can mitigate? I realize that going down to the local town to blow off steam (raise cain, helling, drinking, fraternizing etc) is a fairly limited option where you are.
With the weather being cooler (I realize that is a euphemism) you may want to increase your physical activity level (accounting for weather, health, doctors advice) to help work off stress. When I had been unemployed for two years I was walking 2 miles a day (@ 4mph) to help control my stress load.
Is there any advice you can get from the experienced guys out there? They may have ways of manging/controlling stress that they are willing to share.
My only comment is that it sounds like you have a fairly high stress load that has limited ways of getting bled off. Find a way to work off stress, preferably not work related (that just compounds the issue for later). My only advice on it is: find something (walking, running, push ups, ditch digging, bird watching, catch with a baseball) in order to work off the excess energy.
Otherwise you will go stir crazy if you haven't gotten there already.

Go find a way to play.

The only stressor is the fact that I'm limited in what I can do for fun. Been working out about an hour a day, since they have a weight room (well, weight tent actually). Walking's no problem: work is a 1/2 mile walk from the tent, chow is another hike. Activity helps, but abnormal dreams is apparantly a side effect of the malaria pills.
