School has started. For whatever reason, it’s been my curse most often to miss the first day of school. It’s always a bad sign of things to come. Today was one of those curse-days. I technically only had 1 class today, an English class, or I would have had the English department not called me up to say that not only was I in a class I didn’t have prerequisites for, but it did nothing for my major and I had to leave immediately. I got the call in a message over the weekend and the Add/Drop system, part of a huge student network called Howdy, wouldn’t reactivate until this morning. So I woke up early and responsible, logging in right when it opened only to find that for some reason I couldn’t sign up for the class everyone is telling me counts for my university requirements (it’s the only one open).
Long story short I didn’t have time to figure it out because Howdy crashed and I spent the better part of today waiting for it to come online or calling people trying to get into classes in other ways. It finally came up, but its still not letting me register. I have an early pair of classes tomorrow, and after that I’m going to put in the footwork and get this all figured out. Classes my advisor told me would count towards my university requirements aren’t being listed. Instead it looks like I have to pick from a much shorter list of classes that only freshmen and sophomores can sign up for. It makes no sense. There is one class I’d like to take: (get ready for a cliché) Gay and Lesbian Literature. From what I hear it, not that many gays or lesbians actually take the class, but almost everyone who takes it gets an A. I’m getting mixed answers as to whether or not ‘Gay and Lesbian’ counts as an English literature class. I’m tired of college not making sense.
Justin and I spent the evening trying to decorate our apartment. We both agreed that we lack the ‘gay decorating gene’; and considering how cheap we were, we suspect that the ‘gay decorating gene’ is really the ‘spending money on shit gene’. We did pretty well though. We revamped the space and opened it up and have only spent around $45 between the two of us on stuff. I got cheap $3 picture frames from Target and printed the visuals from art.com out to put into the frame. Our kitchen now has a Greg Brown ‘fruit and vegetables’ theme.
We found a cheap little bookshelf at Wallmart and booted out the huge, ugly entertainment crap-piece the Gateway put in the room. We also got a lamp and some pull ties to clean up the wires. It all looks pretty good. Next on our list is getting an area rug down on the floors, posters on the wall, and getting a clock and key rack in the kitchen.
Anyways, I have an unbelievably busy day tomorrow, from fixing my school schedule, work schedule, the apartment, and on top of that I have my full load of classes and studying to complement them, and it all starts at 8:00, a time so early I haven’t been able to wake up before then until this morning! Wish me luck! Night all!
