Apparently the reason I've never managed to sit through all of Citizen Kane is not because it's boring, but because it's a satire on narcissism? I know the film was a Hearst takedown, but I'd always assumed it was playing it as pretty straight criticism. Doesn't make me want to attempt a rewatch though. In general I don't enjoy media about emotionally terrible people being terrible to everyone around them.
