MayRay :-(

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals starts about 5pm my time...so, in about two hours.

I'm so nervous for the Canucks!

I'm also rather upset, and I have to write about this somewhere because I can't get it out of my head. So, twenty seconds into game 6, one of my very favorite Canucks, Mason Raymond (or MayRay, for short), was slammed into the sideboards by the Bruins' Johnny Boychuk. MayRay had to be taken to the hospital (and for some reason that no one can explain he had to be practically carried off the ice by two of his team mates because apparently no one at Boston's TD Garden arena would provide a stretcher for him!). The next day, the released reports that he has a fractured vertebrae and will be out at least 3-4 months. As far as I know, he's actually still in the hospital in Boston because they couldn't even move him enough yet for him to fly back to Vancouver when the rest of the team did.

The most disturbing thing about this incident, however, is the fact that, even though MayRay didn't even have the puck and it was a late hit when Boychuk slammed into him, Boychuk didn't even receive a penalty *and* the NHL has said that they aren't even going to review it. In other words, a Bruin basically broke a guy's back and the league doesn't even care. Meanwhile, in game 3, the Canucks' Aaron Rome hit the Bruin's Nathan Horton and gave him a concussion. By the following day it was announced that Rome would receive a 4 game suspension, which I have heard is the harshest suspension ever doled out during the Finals.

I'm not saying that Rome doesn't deserve a suspension for giving a guy a concussion...but doesn't Boychuk also deserve one for putting MayRay in the hospital and nearly breaking his back? Also, Horton was at game 6 and was jumping around and waving a yellow towel, and there's been rumors that he might play in game 7. MayRay won't be jumping, or even leaving the hospital, for quite some time.

It's just really frustrating how one-sided everything in this series has been, this being just the most obvious example of that.

Anyway, I'm really really really hoping that the Canucks can pull off a win tonight, despite the adversity. If nothing else, I hope they can win it for MayRay! I know I'll be wearing my Raymond jersey during the game tonight.

Go Canucks Go!
