"No, actually, the real story was a lot funnier. She did have an odd eye, but it was because of cataracts. We bonded because of our dislike of Vicoden and our hatred for Ernest Hemmingway's 'The Old Man and the Sea'. You see, she was either on pain killers or being a complete bitch all of the time and I just assumed the latter until one day when I came into class early, much like the story, and saw her crying at her desk. Instead of a profound connection it was really really awkward. How would you feel if your English teacher was crying about her multiple wrecks, narcotics, and dead relative? Not too great and it's not the kind of situation empathy would have helped either because I feel like the student-teacher is a one way street. That's selfish. I know, but I left the room and this story is about how things could have turned out in a romanticized , tragic way instead of at the end of class calling me a 'Cowboy' and a 'man of true grit'"
