A Long While Back

I was on the way to the nursing home to visit my ailing grandfather; filling the car with my dread when my mom told me some story about a man that was about to be boiled alive by an emperor of some asian country when he bashed his head against the pot he was in so much he died even before water was brought to a boil. Point being a very elderly woman tried to show me her goodies when I, Easter bunny ears in tow, visited a retirement home in the tender grade of Kindergarten.

From the same day: My grandpa told me our last name is not our real last name and it had been made up while fleeing Russia from antisemitic groups and Stalin. When someone comes up to me and says, "Steingold? You don't look very Jewish.." I think back to my ancestors, " Damn, our name Goldstein is ridiculously Jewish. What if we switched around the gold and the Stein......So crazy it just might work." Idiots.
