Pffft, titles

Alright, so I got this doodad that lets me post to livejournal from just about anywhere on the internet, in the hopes that maybe it'll inspire me to actually use the goddamned thing.

Recently got myself a copy of Drumkit From Hell 2, which is a phenomenal drum sampler that is lightyears beyond the shit ass soundfonts I was using before. I'm terrifically excited. Before, I'd write a drum track in MIDI, then cut and paste each element to a separate midi track, then route each track to a different instance of the soundfont player. At this point I'd have a mixer track for each midi track and each instance of the soundfont player, which is a nasty clutter that I do not need. Plus even after all this hassle, everything still needs to be EQ'ed for hours before it sounds even remotely listenable. Fuck that.

DFH lets me keep all the drum elements on one midi track, then creates a mixer channel for each virtual mic on the virtual kit. The mics even bleed realistically. The kick mic picks up ghosts of snare hits, and so on. And it sounds fucking phenomenal right out of the box.

So one of the main hurdles that has stopped me from really cranking out tunes (shitty drums) has been solved.

Things that remain to do:
-Pick up some studio monitors. I'm still mixing on headphones and $30 computer speakers.
-Get new pickups for the Valkyrie. It's an amazing guitar, but it came with bargain basement Korean P-90s that sound like someone is playing it from inside their own butt. I recently found out DiMarzio makes P-90 sized Super Distortions, so if you want to get me an early Christmas present, wink wink nudge nudge.
-Grab a decent vocal mic and preamp. What I'm using now is shameful. This is less important as I hate singing, but it would be nice to have it.

I've been listening to quite a lot of Iain Ballamy's MirrorMask score. It is ridiculously atmospheric and delightful.

Woke up today at 5 in the afternoon, which is the earliest I've been up in ages. I don't go to work until 11, so I'm just kind of puttering around trying to remember what I used to do with my evenings. Holly and Xander are off at her sister's place, so I have a house to myself.

I think I'll cook some chicken alfredo, crank some DEVO albums to 11 and catch up on some reading.
