Workplace limbo
For the last week I haven't been doing my 'sign guy' job. Because of deteriorating equipment I was told that my services weren't required that day. That was realistic: My 'work sign' was falling apart, so I wound up taking the day off..and the workday after that, and most of the workday after that.
But now I'm hearing all kinds of things: One person says the 'sign guy' job has been terminated for all the locations. Another says that new signs are coming, they just don't know when. Yet another says that there will still be a 'sign guy', just not full time...In the worst-case scenario I get fired. In the best case, I go back to my old job at some point. My guess is that the final scenario will be someplace inbtween.
The part that annoys me the most about this is the not knowing: How can you plan for the future when you don't know what your income is going to be like? Should I start seriously looking for a new job now so that when the boom gets lowered I'm prepared? All I want is a straight answer about what's going on and quite frankly I'm not getting one.
