DOOD. Ubuntu's got you too huh? i tried installing it on my laptop but the x windows system doesn't natively support 1024x800 resolution and i get errors. you seem like a linux guru. tell me what i must do, master of the esoteric operating system. hehe
hahaha I'm nowhere near a guru... I'm just a newb. Well, anyway, yeah, I like Ubuntu. I used Fedora for a while, but I wanted to try something less popular, so I tried SuSE. I really liked SuSE, but had problems with it. Gentoo was too time-consuming (with all that compiling job). So, I decided to try what O'Bryan recommended, Ubuntu! Plus, the free Shipit program is nice. I got 10 32-bit CD's, 3 64-bit CD's and 2 MAC CD's sitting in my room, lol.
Oh, btw, I had the same problem. X server crashed on my laptop when I first installed it. Here's a tip if you're still struggling with it. Open /etc/X11/xorg.conf (make sure you back it up first) and add under device, like the following
