So, how the fuck do you give up four straight goals in the playoffs when you're up 3-0? Simple. Bad coaching. Flyers went from aggressive fore checking to dropping 3 men back giving the Pens free passes through the neutral zone. John Stevens had a 3 on 2 when it was 3-3 and he CALLED FOR A LINE CHANGE that dragged 2 of those 3 forwards back to the bench and gave the Pens an odd-man rush. Who the hell ever calls for a change when you have an offensive odd man rush? A bad coach.
For the first time in my life, I find myself hoping that a coach of my favorite team gets fired. You deserve it Stevens. You are a passive coach who makes bad decisions. Give the bench to Berube, at least he showed some passion and didn't stand back there looking like a moron as his team allowed 4 unanswered goals in (not counting the 5th, open net goals with 10s left aren't real goals).
Flyers outplayed the Pens in all but 2 games this series. Poor goaltending by Biron, horrible coaching by Stevens, some exceptionally questionable calls and a slow start to the series all spell disaster. A shame too, because that team had the potential to go the distance. 6 25+ goal scorers, #2 goal scorer in the league, lead the NHL in short handed goals and what do they get ... but this was nearly inevitable the way the ended the season.
Again, for the first time a long while, I wholeheartededly blame coaching.
