Summary: The first snow of the season brings back painful memories for Booth.
AN: I... don't know how I feel about this. Please tell me what you do?
[*]As they left the diner, Booth stopped and stared at the sky. Brennan had just filled her latest pregnancy craving and, distracted by her satisfaction, she took a few more waddled steps before she noticed that he had stopped. “What is it?”
“It’s snowing,” Booth replied. He was still looking up at the small flurries that had begun to fall from the dark sky, his face slack-jawed and unguarded.
“It is the middle of December, Booth,” Brennan pointed out. “In fact, I’m surprised it hasn’t begun to snow before now.”
“I know, I just…” Booth looked at her, then shook himself and kept walking. He kept his pace slow so she could keep up. “Last year I was in Iraq for Christmas. It was… more red than white.”
Brennan took his hand, hoping to dispel the haunted expression that had appeared. “You don’t have to worry about dying this Christmas,” she said with her usual bluntness. “This year, you only have to think about us. You, me, and the baby.”
Booth smiled and rested his hand on her stomach in a way that had become completely normal. He leaned in to kiss her as the snow fell silently around them.
