[ History ] :
Here and here!

[ Personality ] :
Chie is the kind of person who acts before she thinks, rushing ahead to beat up a shadow in her way or to defend somebody she knows. When it comes time for her to take action, she never hesitates, so long as it's the right thing to do. She's very much a defender of justice and the weak and small, and always does her best to do the right thing. It really irritates and upsets her when someone is knowingly and willingly evil, or intentionally doing things to hurt other people. From bullies to murderers, if Chie sees someone hurting someone who can't defend themselves (and sometimes even if they can), she rushes in to help them.

Before completing her social link in the game, she didn't think about the consequences of that sort of reckless behavior. She would often come up with titles for herself that one would expect from an anime hero than from a high school girl, and would sometimes jokingly narrate a line or two of what it would be like if she were in an action show. This can be particularly seen in the first dungeon of the game, where Yukiko is lost in the TV. Chie is so anxious to rescue her friend that she runs ahead of Yosuke and the protagonist, completely ignoring their warnings, and charges straight into the “castle” that is Yukiko's shadow dungeon. By the end of the events with her, however, Chie came to realize that sometimes, rushing into a fight by herself without a plan could potentially cause more harm than good. She also came to realize that she doesn't have to do everything by herself; her friends were there to support and help her, even when she was trying to be especially strong for them.

Although Chie is outwardly very strong and outgoing, she is also very insecure with herself as a member of the female sex. She often compares herself to those she considers examples of femininity, particularly her best friend Yukiko. These same comparisons lead not only to admiration for other girls, but also a very well-hidden jealousy. It is, in fact, so deeply hidden within her that it's the basis for Chie's shadow boss fight in the early game. However, the shadow fight itself made Chie own up to her own darker thoughts, and she developed a better handle on them.

Despite this insecurity and deep-set jealousy, Chie is very much a cheerful optimist, always looking for the brighter side of things. If something goes wrong, she does her best to make the most of it, or fix it as soon as she possibly can. She hates feeling helpless and weak, and even though she might not be the most creative of a person, she does her best to keep things going in a positive direction.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Chie is a very strong girl, and not just in personality. Her passion for martial arts borders on obsession, even to the point where she's taught herself kung fu from videos and books. She trains every day, and it shows in her skill and physical strength. Her signature skill is the only instant kill follow-up in the game: she literally punts an enemy into outer space.

Her Persona has mostly physical attacks at its disposal, with only a mid-level ice spell for any kind of elemental magic. When her persona evolves into Suzuka Gongen at the end of her social link, it nullifies any ice spell used against Chie. She tends to take hits well, even from those several levels higher than she is. And her speed is very high-- she dodges enemy attacks about 40% of the time, and generally takes her turn before most others with the exception of Yosuke. However, she's more built for speed and accuracy than for strength, so while she hits hard to normal people, in terms of pure damage dealing she's left behind fairly easily by most other members of the party.

She also has a knack for looking at complicated pieces of information and summarizing them in a sentence with a fair amount of accuracy, oftentimes without even realizing what she's said. This is most often shown near the end of the game, where the solutions to the mystery around Inaba start to become ever more convoluted. While the rest of the team is tossing around information that they've learned, or partial pieces of their theories, Chie will often just listen and then ask exactly the right question. It usually takes everybody, including her, by surprise. A good example of this is when the group is theorizing who could be the real murderer, and where they could be hiding. After a long discussion, Chie asks the group, who were trying to think of someone suspicious in town, “So, maybe it's someone we know here in Inaba?” The question takes the group by surprise, and leads them closer to the right path to follow.

As for weaknesses, Chie doesn't handle romance very well. As a fairly general rule, Chie has considered herself too much unlike a girl to be a target for any sort of romantic relationships, although there are hints throughout the game that it isn't necessarily so. The protagonist of the game is capable of forming a romantic relationship with her, but even then she tends to be awkward and unlikely to initiate physical contact. That's not to say that she's unapproachable, simply that she's not good with it, seeing as she's so inexperienced and so self-conscious about it.

She also doesn't handle bugs and insects well at all. She's been shown to jump and freak out a little just from being told that there's a grasshopper on her back. Though she claims she wants to get over this little phobia, it's likely to be a long time in coming, if it ever comes at all.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
Chie eats a lot, but she sucks at cooking. Almost anything she makes is at best inedible, and at worst poisonous. It could be that she's never had any real teaching, and is completely winging it, or it could be that she just can't do it. (Personally, I theorize it's the former.)

She tends to get along well with children, and likes teaching them. Especially Nanako, the protagonist's cousin.

Chie's current career goal is to be a police officer, so she can protect the town she and her friends spent so much blood, sweat and tears saving.

She eats a lot of protein-heavy foods to supplement her training regimen, particularly meat. Despite her size, she eats a lot thanks to her high levels of activity.

[ Sample ] :
Cozily tucked into a corner at the Chinese Diner Aiya, Chie stared at the meat and fried rice in front of her. For once, her hand made no move to scoop up the deliciously meaty dish in front of her to move it to her mouth. For once, she felt-self conscious, almost, about eating.

If you keep eating so much, you're gonna get fat!

What bullshit. Chie grit her teeth and finally, finally started to eat, feeling her legs starting to cramp up after that workout. She totally worked enough to not worry about how much she ate, right?! Right! So it wasn't a problem for her!

...Why did she even care? It's not like she cared when anybody else said that kind of stuff. And he'd said it to tease her anyway. She knew this! It wasn't even anything new. All of her friends teased her a little about her eating habits. It wasn't a big deal any other time!

“...Dammit!” Chie quickly munched down the rest of her meal and paid her tab before leaving the diner. “I can't believe this... This is so dumb. I'm not seriously letting that get to me, am I?”

Scowling, she headed back to the riverbank. Some training would help her sort her thoughts, for sure! Following the patterns of a kata always helped her think and clear her head.

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : Just a quick question, actually, regarding Chie's persona. It's never really said in-game whether the investigation team can only use their personas in the TV world, and I wanted to know if they'd be able to use it in Vatheon? Just as a reference.
