Last week Ari fractured his ankle in the middle of the night. O.K., we don't know for sure if he fractured it or twisted it, but when he woke up in the morning he could not step on his foot; could not stand, could not walk, and winced when I tried to put on his sock. I took him to the pediatrician who sent us to the orthopedist, who put on a cast on his foot. I didn't sleep much that week, worrying about an active, rambunctious two-year-old who will not be able to walk for two weeks. Well, the good thing is that his foot healed faster than we had expected, and the cast was taken off today. So my husband said, O.K. things should settle down not for a little while. I said, "don't jinx it." So tonight, Ari could not fall asleep for over an hour, because he was coughing so much. He finally fell asleep, only to wake up a couple of hours later, coughing, and with a fever. Now he's been awake for over two hours, because the cough keeps waking him up. There is no point for me trying to fall asleep now, because Eli should be up any time, wanting to eat. I don't mean to complain, but I have a presentation tomorrow, and a final paper due next week. It is crunch time at school, and everything is due, and I have over two weeks left. O.K., gotta go to the feverish kiddo.
