sawyer, jin
PG-13
early season two

Sawyer didn't like to think about him floating in the ocean, dead. He didn't know what scared him more: feeling like Jin had just dropped off the face of the planet, like he'd never been there, or knowing in his gut that their raft would take them to his body, water-logged and lifeless, and they would be forced to think about how he had existed, but now he didn't, and for something as arbitrary as not having solid ground under his feet.

Sawyer is surprised at how relieved he is when they finally wash ashore, when his toes dig into sand again. Then he sees Jin coming toward them, not a ghost or a body but a man, defying all of Sawyer's doom-laden logic. He doesn't have time to think about it at first, but when they end up in that pit with only each other to stare at for so long, Sawyer can't stop looking at him. This is what reprieve looks like, he thinks. For every planet you drop off, for every sky you fall from, there is a place to land. There are all sorts of manners of living, and Sawyer decides he really can’t bear to be floating anymore, lifeless or even fighting.
