Day 7: London

Jul 31, 2010 20:46

I did this to myself. I just have to remember this. It was my decision to stay an additional two days in London.

Still, my feet are not thankful.

Started the day with the Museum of London. Nice place for everyone interested in history. I especially liked the “Victorian Street”, a reconstruction of a shopping district of Victorian times. One should think that the impressions would have given rise to ideas of Sherlock Holmes, but no. Instead there are ideas of Torchwood and timetravel and Ianto in Victorian London hiding from Torchwood. Why do my ideas have to be so strange?

After the museum I went down to Westminster and got in the queue to visit the Parliament. THAT was quite interesting, the history of the place is fascinating. I also figured out were the new Sherlock Holmes movie was filmed. But after turning my steps towards Tower Bridge afterwards I started to wonder of the logistics of the big fight between Blackwood and Sherlock. Westminster isn’t that close to the Bridge.

Anyway, I enjoyed the tour through the Parliament and didn’t even mind the 14 Pounds entrance fee. On the other hand I very much minded the 17 Pounds 50 they wanted for a visit of the tower of the over 20 Pounds Madame Tussauds was asking for. I didn’t even look what the London Dungeon would have costed me. So that is something I learned in London: the entrance fees are either shockingly high or wtf low - like the Museum of London which was, once again, free!

Now I am back in the hotel and plans for tomorrow include the British Museum and the Museum of Natural history. I kind of wanted to visit one of the old cementries - yes, I am weird that way, has something to do with my fascination for history and archaeology - but I probably won’t find the time. And Monday it is off back home.
