A lesson is a really good idea. you won't regret it.

You very well may be goofy foot - I am! - one way to help tell is in a pair of socks like, jump forward & slide onto a wood or linoleum floor. Your foot that leads is the foot that you will prolly feel more comfortable (& have more success with) leading you down the mountain. Its not a foolproof trick but give it a try & see which foot leads you, if it ends up being your right you're gonna wanna try goofy, I think.
If I was around I'd totally help you set up! :/

Lessons or no however, your first few tries you will just be falling ALOT. I did. Then it "clicked" around trip #3. So don't be discouraged. IMO, boarding is MUCH more difficult than skiing.

OK, & heres something, that while may not be the BEST idea, honestly it kinda helped me. I'd have a couple drinks & get a *very minimal* buzz going. It loosened me up & relaxed me just enough that I actually began making some progress. Being stiff & tight & nervous is not gonna make anything any easier. You def need to be loose when you're boarding - the stiffer you are, the more likely you are to go down.
Do I recommend getting drunk? Absolutely not, but I honestly don't think one or maybe two drinks hurts.
