i'm going down with these ships
at first it felt like a sin that i love any other group than tvxq. like, please, i've been loving them for over 3 years (officially) and i sort of have stated my undying love to them. i love them, present tense. but now i found a new love which is exo.
i agree that they are overrated. hey, super junior and snsd are overrated too so what's the difference if i like exo? they're still rookie, yes. they haven't unleashed their talents, yes. they're still awkward, yes. not all of them can really sing live, yes. so what's making me love them? if you compare exo with tvxq then for me tvxq is the heaven and exo is the earth. not even kidding. but hey, they are basically on different levels so we can't really compare them, no? i love tvxq as gods and exo as aliens. different levels.
and now people sorta complain (lol) to me that i don't write yunjae anymore.
hey, it's not that i don't want to write about them already. i just need their moments. anything. same clothes/shoes/rings will do. but where are they? i need something to trigger my yunjae feels. i will write them again if the moment comes.
and why the hell do i write exo couples now?
simple: moments. they have so many couples (correction: A LOT) and each of them is so pair-able just like tvxq. you can pair up yunho and junsu and it isn't really weird because there are spazz-worthy moments between them. same goes with exo. each of them has their own moments that can't go unnoticed.
now, shall i talk about my OTPs?
the thing is, unlike yunjae which is like the most overrated pairing in kpop, i love hipster pairings in this fandom. the underrated ones. the unnoticed. but from them i feel real affections. not just fanservice.
now, shall we proceed to the explanation why i love those pairings?
1. KrisYeol (Kris/Chanyeol)
the header of my journal says it all. i even ship them before i knew exo better, thanks to my partner troll #1. actually kris (the blonde and manly one) is my ultimate bias in exo and the anomaly of all of my policy in kpop fandom.
1. i always liked a singer. kris is a rapper.
2. i always liked magnae. kris is the leader.
3. i never shipped my bias with anyone. i ship kris with chanyeol (and other members as well, i will get around this matter later).
all and all he is almost like changmin: inhumanly handsome (at different levels as well: changmin is japanese-ish, kris is caucasian-ish), as tall as a pole (the tallest in sme jsyk), and can speak in 4 languages: english (because he is from canada), chinese, cantonese, and korean (but can i scoff at this? after living in korea for 4 years he can only pull level-2 korean. i can do way better, ha). but don't be fooled by his god-like appearance, he is helpless and idiotic. i'm not going over this, you can figure it out if you are in this fandom already.
kris and chanyeol began their scandal even before they officially debuted, started from their mama mv in which kris is a dragon and chanyeol is a phoenix. wait, what does it do to krisyeol ship? in chinese old mythology, dragon is the symbol of the emperor and phoenix is the symbol of empress. see? even sme set them up as a pairing, much to my delusional mind and self. and they also have their own duet performance, two moons. it was where the inside joke "ayyo whaddup krease" came from. search it on youtube will do.
they are called november couple because they were born in that month, twin towers because they are practically the towers in exo (kris is 187cm while chanyeol is 185cm). in korea they are called 클찬, in china they are 牛灿 and in japan クリヨル.
krisyeol is the hipster and the most hate-able ship, because they make a crack to the major ships, taoris and baekyeol. because everytime ot12 reunite krisyeol will always stick to each other, leaving taoris and baekyeol shippers sulking in the corner and throwing tantrums. the biggest event when they were seen really close and stick to each other is probably in disneyland. krisyeol was everywhere, taoris and baekyeol were almost non-existent.
and oh, airports are their scandalous places as well. see the pic above? it was taken in incheon airport, and at that moment was shown as well how kris took care of chanyeol.
i can't give you full details because i have to move onto the next pairing, but i can always provide if you ask.
2. XiuHan (Xiumin/Luhan)
believe me, they are the cutest pairing in exo, probably in the entire kpop fandom i've ever experienced. they are the oldest members (yes, don't be fooled by their cute faces) but they act like kindergarten kids. they have this infamous 'baozi' moment, in which luhan always refers xiumin as a steamed bun because his round cheeks. and that nickname rubs all over other members as well, to the extent when kris was asked who he would bring along in deserted island, he answered he would bring xiumin along because he is edible. and the CPR moment, in which xiumin had to explain CPR to tao during a game and luhan voluntarily lied down the floor so xiumin could demonstrate the CPR process, can't go unnoticed as well to xiuhan shipper.
they are the second hate-able pairing because of hunhan ship. i don't get it why they hate this cute pairing so much?
3. KaiHun (Kai/Sehun)
not so hipster pairing because of the infamous and hard-to-hate threesome kaihunhan, but they're still underrated after all. they are so close to each other because they have the same circle of friends among trainees, and they have their own slots of duet dances in teaser videos, such as run&gun and what is love. but offstage they are so cute because they are the magnaes in exo.
4. BaekTao or TaoHyun (Tao/Baekhyun)
if there is the threesome kaihunhan, we have this infamous foursome taorisbaekyeol. okay this ship is super underrated but it still sails fine. why are they pair-able? they are called the taurus couple because they share the same astrological sign, and tao revealed that back then when they were still trainees he liked to follow baekhyun everywhere.
standing position is the key point in krisyeol and baektao couples. krisyeol stand together at the right end while baektao stand at the left end. you can see that kris and tao are chinese and can't speak korean really well; thus, chanyeol and baekhyun are there for them to aid. unlike krisyeol who can help himself (because he's the leader), every time exo in korea baekhyun will take care of tao and in return tao will take care of baekhyun when they are in china. in disneyland they were also caught really close.
in the 100th day exo event, tao confessed that some time ago a fan gave him a pendant (some said it's a taurus pendant) and he gave it to baekhyun, and baekhyun said he would find a chain for it. in that event baekhyun wore that pendant and he wore it also in some other events, and tao expressed that he felt really happy.
5. KrisBaek (Kris/Baekhyun)
krisbaek, the most underrated couple and probably the most un-ship-able pairing i've ever shipped. my guilty pleasure in krisyeol-baektao ships. there aren't so many moments between them but when there is, it will be super cute like the pic above (jfyi, this pic is my phone's wallpaper at this moment).
the first time krisbaek ship formed was in disneyland time. see, not only krisyeol and baektao formed their ship and sailed from this era, other pairings such as krislay and krisbaek also there. yes, kris is so friendly to anyone in exo i jokingly call him bitch because really, he has spazz-worthy moments with almost everyone and i can end up ship him with everyone.
actually baekhyun stated in their korea showcase that he wanted to be kris' friend because he thought the older guy looks like him, but i think that krisbaek moment has gone unnoticed.
this pairing had shaken up my krisyeol heart because the very first pic was uploaded when they arrived in disneyland was not hunhan, or baekyeol, or taoris. it was kris holding baekhyun's hand while walking. and there is a pic of them together in which baekhyun comfortably leaned his head on kris' shoulder. and in various events baekhyun was seen talking lightly to kris and laughing together, making my krisyeol heart found another pleasure.
now do you expect me to ship tao/chanyeol as well? unfortunately, no. or not yet. they haven't had their own spazz-worthy moment yet so there's no reason for me to ship them. but in the future, who knows?
6. KrisHan (Kris/Luhan)
another hipster pairing, but not so hipster as well because it's kris and luhan we are talking about, who are ones with the most fans in numbers, alongside with kai and chanyeol. there aren't many moments between them but they always manage to look cute together in various shows. and is it just me, or they slightly look alike? :)

yes, kris is a bitch and he makes me end up shipping him with everyone. but their closeness is inevitable since they are roommates in their dorm in china. and i think kris takes care of chen really well since chen is korean and needs so much aid in language matter.
now are you wondering if i ship kris with lay or xiumin as well, and any other members in exo-k? the answer is, no at this moment. krislay are cute because lay practically trolls over kris anywhere anytime, but that's that. xiumin is forever luhan's. i'm tempted with kris/suho but they are my biases so as much as my delusional mind takes over, i can't ship them together yet. but believe me, kris has his moments with everyone in exo (i will show you later) but for now they're not really spazz-worthy to my liking.
8. SuDo (Suho/D.O)
they are the parents in exo-k, with suho as the daddy and d.o (kyungsoo) as the mommy. that fact itself is a ship material already, don't you think? in real life you can also see how suho cares about kyungsoo and supports the younger guy wholeheartedly, and kyungsoo takes care of suho as well just like in the pic above.
they aren't supposed to be hipster pairing, but they are because of kaisoo ship.
now are you wondering, do i dislike overrated pairings? the answer is, not all of them. i dislike taoris and baekyeol ships because of their shippers who constantly annoy my krisyeol family (i have this one friend who spazzes over taoris nonstop and openly mocks kris/x, which is none other than krisyeol); but overall i don't hate the pairings. taoris are okay and tao is adorable, baekyeol are just purely crazy and crack-ish with their endless sugar rush state.
9. HunHan (Sehun/Luhan)
the overrated ship i can never hate. another pairing created by sme (they have a bunch of teaser photos together) alongside with kaihan and krisyeol. they have too much fanservice, yes. but i can't deny that they are so cute together just like xiuhan. and also for me this pairing is unique because you will never know at the first glance who's younger and who's older. sehun is the magnae in exo born in '94 while luhan is in '90 yet sehun looks older and more seme material than luhan. they both were born on april, and both of them will most likely stick together everytime exo members reunite. luhan takes care of sehun really well and often buys the magnae his favorite bubble tea.
kaihan couple is created by sme as well but i don't really ship them.
10. KaiSoo (Kai/D.O)
another overrated ship i can't hate. kai is adorable and kyungsoo takes care of him like a mother he is, because they are roommates. actually this ship became big after a mind-blowing fic titled 'arbitrage' released (just like 'absolute chanyeol' to baekyeol and 'be human' to taoris; i think you can be labeled a fail exo fan if you never hear about those legendary fics).
actually there are another ships like layhan and suho/sehun (i don't know their pairing name yet lol) but i don't ship them very much yet. and what about the compilation of kris/everyone i have promised? proceed to the pictures below and have fun :)
