I am so into music right now. You know that absurd, listening to the song over and over, finding poetry in the lyrics kind of 'into'. The stupid thing is, there's no particular song. I'm just listening to things and going 'man, how come I never realised how SUBLIME this song is?' (actual quote of me talking to myself). Maybe I'm just going crazy. ("Going?") It's actually quite embarrassing to suddenly go "How GOOD is DIDO! I LOVE THIS SONG!" and then realise what I just said.
At least I've finally settled on all my essay questions and am getting all intellectually excited about them. See, that's the problem with just going 'mmm, THAT one' for me: I need to get all enthusiastic about that which I'm reseaching. I need that passionate, gotta know the rest, outraged, 'omg i'm making a theoretical discovery that nobody's ever thought of before' feeling of really getting into the topic to produce a good essay. Otherwise it's just a retelling. And that, my friends, is why I am a terrible student. Or a good one, I have no idea.
I am so outraged that The Glass House has been axed. Not because I think it's a super fantastic show or because it's the death of Australian comedy. It's because, even if you hate the regulars or the format or the show itself, it was the closest thing we had to the Daily Show in terms of pointing out the ridiculous in our politics. Satire is one of the oldest forms of political regulation and it's all being wiped clean because the government funded channel can't afford the legal complications that a show which criticises produces. Interestingly, that which is most constantly criticised is that same government which provides funding. I'm not calling it a conspiracy or anything, I just think it's sad that The Wedge (that pathetic rip-off of Little Britain with a degree of worth so minute, a new form of quantum mathematics would have to be created just to measure it) is the new frontier of Australian comedy while a high-rating, funny show which just happens to have an opinion is pulled because it's too difficult to defend. This isn't an Orwellian tragedy or anything, but it is concerning. Take away everything that questions and all you have left is a nation of fools.
