My grandfather died yesterday. It was peaceful, he was in his bed at the time, surrounded by his children. I'm still in New Zealand, but I'm leaving early, going to Brisbane tomorrow and then driving up on Sunday. The funeral will probably be on Tuesday. I'm strangely calm about the whole thing, I think because it's not quite real yet, but also because it's been coming on for a year. In fact, I think it was almost exactly a year after his wife died, so that's weird.

I'll update again tomorrow from my sister's. I really can't wait to be back in my own country.
