It's Ironic that a week after the day I set aside to remember my comrades who've passed away another one moves on from this world.
It's been about 10 years since I left NY, and there are a lot of people who I haven't seen since then. It's too bad that Ernie was one of them.
But to say that he made his mark is an understatement, I remember meeting him the day I visted Nyack when I was still in High School. I remember him well through my years there, and will remember him long after today.
When I started at my college, Nyack was going through a transition of a lot more minorities enrolling and living at the school. And I think the reason a lot of those people stayed and have degrees today, is because they knew Ernie and he was full of confidence and encouragement, and he knew how to keep the system from getting you down.
I was proud to play football and basketball with him and to be part of "La Familia".
I will never forget the countless times I would walk into the gym/clasroom/cafeteria and hear Ernie yell "SEAN DOGGIE!!!!" I'll never forget that you accepted a complete freak and deviant who was very different from you.
To leave such an impact on the people you know is the mark of a great man.
Ernie, you will be missed by so many, but we certainly have not lost you.
You did everything you needed to. Rest in Peace brother.
May you be in heaven a half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
