CHAPTER 2

This is here only because of Rach! Thanks mate!

Callie rolled her eyes and smiled a little to Magie. “We need to talk!” She grabbed her girlfriend’s hand and pulled her to the table at the other end of cafeteria.

Mark took Callie’s chair. “So… you are…?” He started but when he saw Magie’s look he just stop.
“She’s Callie’s old… very old friend. They haven’t seen each other in 5 years.”
“Wow. That’s a long of time. So you don’t know what happened in Callie’s life in this time?”
“No. I have no idea what was going on in the world in this time. I have no idea what was going on 5 meters from me in this time.” She replied coldly.

Erica and Callie sat near the window. “Listen. Please don’t be mad… I wouldn’t be if you…”
Erica cut her. “Callie! I have surgery in 30 minutes.”
“Ok. This is Magie. We were best friends since primary school. We were in the same high school and university. After that she moved to N.Y. and joined one of the best Emergency Rescue Teams. We always tried to see each other when we could. Our parents were very close friends. Almost 5 years ago Mags and her team were sent to Iraq. They rescued 6 soldiers trapped in an old bunker. There was a bomb explosion when they arrived and two more in the middle of rescue action. But they saved these people. Their team had to stay there for a couple of weeks. Later on the way to another rescue they were attacked and 7 of them were taken as hostages. That was 4 years ago. And 3 years ago someone from the government went to her father and said that all of Mags team had been shot. He died a couple of days later. We buried him with Magie even though there was no body to bury for Magie”
Erica was listening with concentration so Callie decided to continue. “She was rescued five days ago. And soon after that they sent her team back to the U.S. She didn’t even know that her father died. I had no idea that she was alive.”
“We have to buy a new mattress.” Erica finally said something.
“What?”
“The one in the guest room is really uncomfortable. I should have replaced it a long time ago.”
“I don’t underst…” Callie paused in a middle of her sentence and smiled. “Thank you!” She hugged Erica.
“For what? She has to stay somewhere and in this case it’s the best option.”
“Thank you!” She looked in Magie’s direction. “I should get back to her. There are more of them now.”
Erica looked in the same direction. There was not only Mark and Cristina seated with Magie, but also Karev and O’Malley. Callie took a few steps and Erica stopped her. “Cal?”
“Yeah?”
Erica stood from her seat. “Does she know about us?”
“Hah! I think that now…” She looked again at the table. “Yes. She knows.” She gave Erica a small smile.
“Ok. I’d better go.” Erica said looking at her watch.
“Umm…” Callie muttered.
“What now?”
“Could you do me a favor?” Callie smiled. “Please?”
Erica sighed. “What kind of favor?”
“Could you please put Cristina on your surgery?”
“Callie!”
“You kind of owe her.” Erica gasped. “What?”
“You’re taking her best roommate!.” She grinned. Erica was looking at her and she couldn’t resist but smile. “Fine!” she said finally and went to OR.

“OK! OUT!” Callie shouted when she came back to the table. Mark, Karev, George and Cristina started to walk away. “Not you! You stay!” She said to Yang.
“What? What did I do?”
“You have surgery in 15 minutes.”
“What? Cal! I told you that I hate bones.” Callie rolled her eyes.
“Not with me!”
“Oh!” Cristina was looking at her for a moment. “OH!” Finally she realized what Callie had said to her. “Oh my God!” She couldn’t believe it. “Thank you.” She almost hugged Callie but she stopped herself and just patted Callie’s shoulder with her fingers and ran to the OR.
“Everything alright?” Callie asked Magie when she saw her pale face.
“Yeah… uhmm… no. Too many people. Too many people and things around.” She answered quietly.
“Come on. Let’s take you home. You’re going to eat something and take a bath.”
“But you’re at work. And what about Erica?” She looked at Callie with a stupid grin.
“Hah! Don’t worry about her. She’s the one who said that you should stay with us. Why you are smiling like that?”
“It’s nothing. I’m sorry. It’s just I didn’t know that you like girls. I’ve always thought that you… don’t.”
“I don’t like girls. I like her. Anyway it’s a long story which was missing you as a good advisor in stuff like this.” She embraced Magie with her arm and they went home.

“Yang.” Erica muttered.
“Yes Dr Hahn?”
“You’ve said that I’m not teaching you, and when I do I’m doing it wrong.”
“Yes Dr Hahn. I’m sorry.” Cristina was scared as hell and Erica noticed that.
“Save it. I’ve heard what happened after my leaving. About your interns.” She didn’t move her gaze from patient’s open chest. “I know that you have taught Meredith Grey before in preparation for my surgery.”
“I’m sorry Dr Hahn… but…” Erica cut her quickly.
“I’m going to say THIS only once and I’m not going to repeat it ever!” Cristina just nodded.
“You are good surgeon Yang. And you’re a good teacher. Don’t screw it UP!”

Callie and Magie were sitting on the sofa. They were talking about Callie’s life. Magie didn’t want to talk about what happened to her yet. She wasn’t ready.
“So she came back anyway?” Magie asked about Erica.
“Yes. She showed up three weeks later. She came to my office and said: I’m sorry! I know you… but that is not enough. I want to get you know more. I’m sorry I came back for you!”
“And?”
“And that’s all. Oh… we had long talk. We both knew that it was as much my fault as it was hers. And then this case with Izzie came along. Iz went crazy and Chief decided to send her for some vacations.”
“But she’s still working in this hospital right?”
“Yeah. Finally Chief wanted to fire her because he also wanted Erica back. But Erica said to him that he didn’t have to do that to have her back. She just didn’t want to work with Izzie.” She shook her head.
“You didn’t want to leave?”
“After Erica came back, yes. I really was very close.”
“Why did you stay?” Magie asked laying her head on the pillow.
“Erica said that I shouldn’t.” She took blanket and covered Magie. “This is my home. This hospital is my home. In a professional sense. After that she went to him and said that she’s taking his offer.” She smiled gently. “He was so happy to have her back that he gave her a raise.”
“That’s nice.” Magie smiled and closed her eyes.
Door bell rang and Callie stood up to see who it was.

“I brought you the rest of your things.” Cristina was holding a big box. Callie moved so she could enter. “And we need to talk!”
“What now?” Callie rolled her eyes.
“Your girlfriend has a brain tumor.”
“What?” Callie couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
“We had this surgery… and she… and she suddenly told me that she knows what my interns have done to or with Sadie. And that I’m a good surgeon and a good teacher and I shouldn’t waste it.”
“Christ! Cristina!” Callie said with a sigh of relief.
“What?” Callie shook her head and sighed again.
“She didn’t say anything that we all don’t know.”
Cristina just stood and thought for a while. “But this is not Hahn talking.” Callie rolled her eyes again. “No it wasn’t. IT was Erica’s talking. You just need to know her better. And seriously Cristina! A brain tumor?!”
Cristina just snorted nervously and then Erica came in.
“Yang are you stalking me?” She asked stiffly. “No Dr Hahn. I just brought Callie’s stuff and I’m leaving.” Callie gave her a small smile and opened the door for her. “Thanks. See you tomorrow.”
