Hello my lovely ladies,
OK, I'm pulling the finger out and actually writing an email. I was waiting till after the CELTA interview and dissertation marks in the hope that I would have good news for you. That is, something to write about as I am so jealous of all of your adventures and tales! Anyway, I have 50% good news. I did get into the CELTA course (hurrah!). I was well nervous - I had to do this pre-interview written bit for half an hour, with some grammar tasks, questions about teaching methods etc. Then there was a chat about my motivation for doing the course (I tried to avoid saying "I just want to bum around the world for the rest of my life" and instead talked about how I liked to help people - ha!) and then I had to demonstrate how I would teach a couple of things (ie. the difference between "I live in London" and "I'm living in London"); cue me drawing some terrible pictures of Big Ben! Anyway, I thought I was being a twat, but apparently I was showing imagination so she offered me a place. So that's August in London, and after that... Who knows? I'd be happy going anywhere that took me, though Istanbul/Venezuela/Cambodia are still top.
The not-so-great news is that I didn't do as well in my dissertation as I hoped. I got 65%, which I know could be a lot worse, but it's dragged my whole grade down and also it's the worst mark I've got since 1st year and I've never worked so hard on anything. Plus his feedback was stupid and didn't make any sense, so I have also decided he is a cunt. I feel this is the mature approach to a disappointing mark! Anyway, what can I do? Just work harder! Ha, cannot wait for this all to be over.
I'm afraid I don't have much (indeed, any) exciting news. Apart from stress I am actually pretty happy at the moment. Or, at least, if not over-joyed happy, well-balanced again. I told Gordon just before New Year that I never wanted to hear from him again, which while over-dramatic, has taken a huge weight off my mind. Otherwise... my flatmates are really lovely, as are the people on my course, I'm finding my IR courses really interesting. I'm doing one on "Finance and Power in the Global Age" which is pretty hardcore but fascinating. I have Glee and HIMYM to look forward to (yes, I am pathetic, but the little things count!).
Ellie: I'm glad you had a good birthday and you had plenty of cake. I love the Madame Claude music quiz, mainly because once I got an answer right (the only time in my entire life!)... Is the course going better? It all sounds so bizarre... crazy Mexicans, moustachioed men with lisps and the like. Have you met up any more with your tandem partner?
Hannah: The Hetherington Club sounds amazing, it really does. I would love to come and see it if it's still going when I'm back in March. Very appealing aspect: Not Dominated By Swappies. That is pretty much impossible at Sussex! And, yes, I am doing a CELTA. Might come home after it for a bit to make enough money to pay off le overdraft and find a job, unless I got one straight away, in which case... I'm off. Have fun modelling today!!!
Lilith: Hope all is going well in the US of A. Can't wait to see you in March! How are your classes? People you know? ETC. Oh, and what are your plans for when you're back? You'll be in London for a bit?
Megs: NZ sounds incredible! I was loving the story of the car/apartment/deathtrap. It all sounds like such an amazing adventure... Jealous! I bet you're so brown as well. I hope you're enjoying it despite feeling unsettled. The Chris situation sounds well confusing though... It must be so hard when he's being lovely, like you said, like the Chris you used to know. I think you're right though, you'll just have to see how it is when you're back, and as well, you might end up hating each other again. I guess just enjoy your break and then wait and see.
