Random Thought of the Day...

I realized cliches are often used to sugarcoat what people are really trying to say. The meanings and how one perceives the insult tend to be the same, but it simply sounds nicer:

Ex. "She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed." = "She doesn't get things."
Ex. "He's not the brightest crayon in the box." = "He is stupid."

Whoever thought of cliches most likely thought he or she was clever or even kind to have the true criticism hidden beneath the visible words, but I believe he or she was simply "beating around the bush."
