Married now!

pyromaniac-ks and I are married.

Since it was our wedding and we both wanted it over and done with as little faffing about as possible, we took some major shortcuts from the usual wedding ceremony.

No wedding dress, no rental tuxedos

I had a very nice white linen pantsuit with white flat shoes and a white shirt. I had imagined a shirt with frills or ruffles at the collar and the sleeves, but was unable to find anything like it. I was pretty much resigned to just using a normal white shirt. But my mum got a friend of hers to custom-tailor me a sort of 70's glam rock thing in sheer white fabric. It looked really stylish and some old lady at the hotel gushed over how lovely I looked. Mum also got me a big white rose-shaped decoration which she wanted me to wear in my hair, but we eventually settled on pinning it to my lapel instead.

Pyro had a very nice three-piece suit from Slaters in Ayr. The clerk was very helpful and witty, and found us a great-fitting suit for my husband's diminutive frame (32 inches chest circumference, most places that carry men's suitjackets start at 36 with the very, very rare 34). Both of our suits are ours and can be reused later as formalwear.

No bridesmaids, Best Man, or bachelor parties

The guest list was 12 people, mostly Pyro's family. Or as he put it, "people I don't like spending time with normally". We had two witnesses (one of his siblings and my mum), chosen literally at the last minute from among the guests. None of our *actual* friends could make it, so there was no point in additional festivities.

No flowers

Flowers; what are they good for? They look pretty but you just throw them out after a couple days. I didn't have a bouquet either, which also briefly terrified mum.

No traditions/superstitions

No four somethings, no me getting escorted to the altar table, no throwing of things (well, there was some confetti), no getting carried over anything, and so on and so forth. This is not a new beginning of anything for us, it's just an official confirmation of what we already have and want to have.

We did leave in a few things for practical reasons.

Wedding photographer

To satisfy the ancient Internet law of "pix or it didn't happen", we got Alan Love to come in with a camera and micromanage us pretending to sign the already-signed marriage certificate, hanging out in the garden, and pretending to cut the cake.

Wedding cake

Because any occasion that could conceivably include cake should have cake. Kristy from Kristy Cakes, a very talented baker and a really nice person, set us up with this gorgeous little thing. It was delicious!

Custom vows

Pretty short and to the point:

I (first name) solemnly and sincerely declare, that I know of no legal impediment to my marrying (first name).

I (first name) accept you (first name) as my lawful wedded husband/wife,
To have and to hold from this day forward,
I want us to be together in happy times and unhappy times,
I want to support you and help you whenever you need it,
I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

So, now we are married, and we can get back to what's truly important in life, like playing video games. :)
