Character Information
Name: Meagan Amberly Emerson
LJ User name:
meagan_emersonHouse: Hufflepuff
Year: 6th
Age: 17
Birthdate: October 23
Zodiac Sign / Description:
Meagan was born on the cusp of Libra and Scorpio. She has traits from both signs.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22) the Scales of Justice. Cardinal, air, yang - planetary ruler: Venus. Keywords: "I BALANCE"
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21) the Scorpion. Fixed, water, yin - planetary rulers: Mars and Pluto. Keywords: "I DESIRE"
Libras sorted into House Hufflepuff are some of the sweetest, most charming individuals you will ever meet. They work hard at their studies compared to other Libras (most Libras would rather coast on their strengths than apply themselves to all their subjects) and are often quite successful. Physically, however, they remain unathletic and lazy - the closest they'll ever get to a Quidditch match is the spectator's box, and that only if the weather is pleasant. Anything beautiful and harmonious appeals to the Hufflepuff Libra. Since potions and alchemy require an instinctive awareness of the harmony of ingredients, Hufflepuffs who are Libras display a surprising facility in these subjects. These wizards live to help other people, and to help their friends get along with each other; nothing hurts them more than to see people in distress or bickering with each other. Feuds and wars between wizards distress them. Equally distressing is the disharmony between Muggles and magic users. Many Hufflepuff Libras become Muggle specialists, hoping to bridge the gap between magical and non-magical.
This is one of the more bizarre signs to get sorted into House Hufflepuff, but every now and then it happens. It's not as contradictory as one would think. Scorpio is perfectly happy to work behind the scenes without getting much recognition, provided that work actually gets something meaningful done and results in personal success; success means different things to different people, and Hufflepuff Scorpios tend to define success as "accomplishment" rather than as "prestige." These Hufflepuffs are indefatigable. They have the energy and the willpower to keep going even when everyone else around them has quit. They are workaholics to an extreme, if they are obsessed with a particular project; otherwise, they are happy to devote their prodigious energies to their family and friends, to whom they are devoted. Scorpio is often associated with the serpents of Aesculapius, demi-god of medicine, and the social orientation and skill at herbals that Hufflepuff wizards exhibit make the Scorpio Hufflepuff a natural healer.
Bloodline: Halfblood
Heritage: Scottish
Mother: Nothing known about biological mother.
Father: Nothing known about biological father.
Guardian: Douglas (45) and Moira (44) Emerson
Douglas and Moira met in college. They were both engaged to their highschool sweethearts and though there was something between them, nothing was ever expected to come of it. Good friends, nothing more. Coming from similar backgrounds, they began to spend time together, rather than their horny classmates.
Through the college years, both relationships dwindled for whatever reason and neither of them rushed to find a new other. During one of their regular movie nights, a kiss was exchanged. From that point, they were inseparable.
They knew they were in love and put no rush on sex or marriage or any of the other relationship things their co-ed counterparts were doing.
After college and a long engagement, they married. Though things had been pretty relaxed until this point, it didn't take them long to decide that they wanted to be parents. Fate stepped in at this point and refused to work with their sudden rush to conceive. After a few years of trying, they looked into other means.
Fate stepped into their lives again, though, this time it smiled on them. With almost no effort, they found their perfect daughter and they've never looked back. Adoption or not, Meagan couldn't be any more theirs if they'd given birth to her themselves.
Siblings: No known siblings.
Personal History:
Meagan has lived with her adoptive parents since she was a few months old. Her adoption has never been kept a secret and there was no teen emo angst moment when she found out. Honestly, there was never a moment where she 'found out'. Her parents never had to sit her down and explain to her where she came from and how very much they loved her. She's known this her whole life. She's adopted and very loved. Simple facts, nothing more.
Unlike some adopted children, Meagan has never had the desire to find her 'real' parents. Not that it would be possible if she did. There is little to no information about the people that gave her up at birth and it would be a miracle if they could be tracked down.
Meagan was loved and spoiled to the extreme. She was an only child... not just an only child but special. She was the one and her parents worshiped the ground she walked on while teaching her the normal things that parents teach. (No elbows on the table. Respect your elders. Work for what is yours. Don't do drugs. Sex is for love. School is important. There are consequences to your actions, make good choices.)
When she received her acceptance letter to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, they were ecstatic. They had known all these years that their precious baby girl was special and this only confirmed it.
She was sent to school with the best of everything and sorted into Hufflepuff the second that the hat touched her head.
Through the years, Meagan has made several lasting friendships and even had the occasional "boyfriend" if you can call them that. She's snogged a few boys and, possibly, allowed things to progress a little further. Mostly, however, the guys she's spent time around seemed more like friends than boyfriends and there's always seemed to be something missing when it came to relationships.
Through the end of her fourth year, she suspected that she could, possibly, have more of an interest in females but she didn't dwell on it. At the time, she brushed it off and chose to think of other things. School took over and before she knew it, she was home for summer. This summer, unlike the ones before it, her parents pushed for an actual vacation. They traveled to a beach and in a chance meeting/unexpected friendship, Maegan was kissed by a girl.
Once at home and before going off to Hogwarts for her fifth year, she had a talk with her parents and told them how she'd been feeling. She told them that she thought these feelings were confirmed through the summer and she begged them not to be upset with her.
Like most parents, Douglas and Moira were disappointed. They'd always pictured a huge wedding and a knight in shining armor but they put forth a effort at being understanding and caring. Their daughter was special, after all, and this applied even when the unexpected happened.
Though she's open and honest with her parents about everything, most of the people at school wouldn't know of her sexual orientation. Frankly, she doesn't think that it's anyones business and even those closest to her might not know. It's strictly a case-by-case (almost need-to-know) basis.
Personality:
Though Meagan could have, easily, turned into a spoiled brat. Her parents balanced their love and adoration with rules and regulations. She had chores (her pre-school teacher insisted that this was a good step to raising a well rounded child), she earned an allowance, she was taught that books were far more important than television.
Though she loves the TV - especially shows with strong female leads, she loves her books just as much. Through the school year, you will often find her with a novel hidden among her school books. She can't watch TV, obviously, so she gets her entertainment from the printed word. (Which, also, means that you rarely find her with a book through the summer. Sure, she buys them and stocks up for the coming year but she spends a lot of her vacation in front of the television catching up on shows that she's missed. (She has quite a TV on DVD collection shelfed among her books.)
Meagan is friendly, though she tends to be slightly guarded when it comes to trusting people. She has several friends but only considers a few of them "best friends". She's very loyal to those she cares about and would be found fighting for those she love rather than herself. Though, do not assume that she is a push over. She can take up for herself but she rarely sees the use in it People are going to think what they are going to think regardless of how much you argue with them.
She's honest. Rather than talk behind your back, she's the type to tell you to your face. Though, she's not rude about it in the slightest. Her mother taught her that if she couldn't say anything nice, she shouldn't say anything at all, after all.
Along with her loyalty, the hat sorted her into Hufflepuff because of how hard she is willing to work. She knows that nothing in life comes easy (even if her life has been pretty easy up until this point) and she works hard for the grades that she earns. Meagan can often times be found lost in her studies, though, if you can manage to pull her from them, she's always up for a bit of fun. Life can't be all work and no play, can it? Of course not, just ask her father.
Physical Description:
She's 5'4" tall, with brown hair that's dark and sometimes appears black, which she keeps long and usually pulls back. Her eyes are light, grayish-blue, and a striking contrast to the darkness of her hair. She has full lips and a pale complexion, and is average in her weight.
Though many people have assured her that her lips are wonderful, she often worries that they are too large. When deep in thought, she often has the corner of her mouth pulled between her teeth and other times, you can often find her fingers fidgeting with her plump bottom lip.
Her clothes are normally neat but her hair is quite the opposite, pulled back (usually in the heat of study) into a messy half up-do. She cares about her appearance but she can't spent her entire day fretting with it. There are other things that need to be done with the time it takes to primp and prep.
Preferred Body Model: Anna Popplewell
Hobbies and talents:
knitting - Meagan can and often does knit. For as long as she can remember, her mother knitted in the evenings. Around the age of 8, she expressed interest in wanting to learn the craft. As with most things, her mother jumped at the opportunity to teach her. Sure, you wont find her out in the common room flaunting her skill but she does enjoy it in the safety of her own dorm. It's relaxing and the perfect way to end a particularly stressful or taxing day... mostly, because it reminds her of those evenings with her mother.
Weaknesses:
over thinking / over analyzing - Where some people can make decisions quickly, Meagan likes to think hers through. All decisions have an after effect and she wants to be sure that she's prepared for both. Since some choices come with a time limit, it can be troublesome when she takes far too long making a decision and the opportunity passes her by.
getting too caught up in the moment - Whether it's a book, TV, studying or playing, Meagan can lose herself quite easily in her activities. It's not uncommon for her to make a 'quick trip' to the library only to not come out again for the next several hours. When planning to do something specific, she has to set an alarm so that she doesn't forget class or lunch or whatever else is on her list of things to do.

Patronus (for fifth years and older):
According to the Chinese Horoscope Cycle, the ox is strong, steadfast and dependable, but not necessarily stupid; faithful to the end, slow to anger, but can be very forceful.
What would your character smell if they sniffed Amortentia (the love potion)? Home. She'd smell her father's pipe and a home cooked meal.
Do you think your character is capable of successfully employing a Cruiciatus Curse? Why or why not? No. I do not think that she is capable of the kind of hate and anger that a curse like that would require.
Describe how your character would react, in the form of a sample RP, if faced with a Dementor.
Meagan had read about this at least a hundred times. Yet, now that she was faced with one, she couldn't think clearly. Every thing she'd read on the subject was suddenly lost to her as every happy memory was pulled from her body.
Bloody ruddy figures, doesn't it? The one time she needs to remember something, her brain gives up on her.
She stood still, frozen in the spot she was standing as she stared at the dark figure in front of her. The incantation that she needed and how to preform it was lost to her. The only thing filling her thoughts was how hurt her parents were going to be when she died. She'd been their only child, their miracle, if you asked them and now they were going to suffer a loss that no parent should go through.
Maybe someone would, at least, take pity on them and tell them that she'd died quickly - easily. Maybe they could beef it up a bit and even add in the word 'happy', though she was certain she'd never feel that way again, whether she made it through this or not.
Alignment: Meagan's parents are muggle. Though she is dead set against Voldemort and everything that he stands for, she doesn't stand and show her alliances.
Requests: None. Unless you consider her sexual orientation.
