Swaps 'n' stuff...

Feb 02, 2006 13:42

... so along with the frothy drinks and art yesterday, I also went through my boxes of swaps. I have one specifically reserved for my 20 Things exchange I participated in - what? 4 years ago, now! - the collection means more than using some of the pieces even though I don't get to *see* them every day. Going back through is so very inspirational! ( Read more... )

totally off the subject, but ... identity7 February 2 2006, 18:03:48 UTC
did you see this on ebay?

I instantly thought of you!!! If you are interested in bidding and they won't ship to you I'd be more than happy to have it shipped to me and then send it on to you for a needle and couple of the vials! It's more than I'll use alone and I hate to steal it away from someone who will use more of it than me!

it just seemed so you :)

Oh. My. What a fantastic offering!! And, I have to say, I'm not just a little flattered that this is considered "so me"! lol

Looks like sweetmadnes got there first ... go Geri! :)

I also might be interested in the 20 things swap ... when would the deadline be?

Goody! I'd be thinking of a long deadline. We'll be away the last 2 weeks of March and I want to give people enough time to create something really wonderful. I'm thinking mid-April?

I'm going to have to pass this go-round ... all my stuff for the next Workshop in a Book is due around that time as well as an article for the Sept./Oct. issue of Somerset. I REALLY want to play, but I'm trying to learn to say no to things that conflict with my deadlines this year!

maybe next time :)

i did that 20 Things swap once. it was cool! i still have mine, too. i *might* play, dependent upon deadlines, etc. i'm not really much of a swapper/roundrobin type though i am trying to be a little more "social" this year. heh.

Oh Bobbi, it'd be an honour to have you part of this! I'm thinking mid-April deadline if that's agreeable for most people. But I'm nothing if not flexible...

ps - i got some of that cracky stuff in a bottle and tried it, expecting magic, but it didn't seem to work that well...but i think i did it wrong. i still have it and should try again! (assuming i EVER make art again...sigh.)

i just bid on the medical stuff. now i have to go to half price books so that i can have some cash! sorry.

i have been trying to crackle all week. i used golden's paste which just looked as if i had smeared white stuff all over my work. not good. i am trying claudine's crackle with white glue, but that isn't going so well. either. i wanted the piece to look more aged after crackling, and then i sanded it. the glue just peeled right off as if you were peeling it off your fingers! so yesterday i sanded and dry brushed a bit first, and then did the crackle with glue business. i'm not sure i'm happy.

i have used crackle medium from michael's. whatever was the cheapest. it has worked for me in the past, but when i taught a class and we did the whole process much more quickly than i do at home, the crackle peeled off when people went to apply the top layer of acrylic paint. that was disappointing, and made me look like somewhat of an idiot!

so, let me know what you're trying and what you find out.

oh! i could do 20 things.

Good luck on the auction Geri! What a find!!

I'm actually going for more of what's deemed "craquelure" - think old painting or china crazing rather than the top coat actually cracking. I know there are ways of doing this with oils but I don't do oils and I can't believe there isn't a water-based alternative.

Regarding crackle medium - I've done this with good results and less than stellar results and my findings were that it is imperative for the undercoat to be good and dry before applying the crackle medium and then the crackle medium dry overnight if possible. I also found that an even coat of the final top layer was really important - not so much the thickness - and not to over brush. At all!

And I'd love to have you on board the 20 Things. I'm thinking mid-April deadline. Does that sound good to you?

Oh. Yes. I forgot that one of the stipulations for the original 20 Things was size... lessee they were... nope can't find the specifics but I'm thinking something like no bigger than 6 x 6 x 2. Does that make sense? We Canadians don't have those USPS boxes like you guys do - what're the sizes of those boxes anyway??
