... so along with the frothy drinks and art yesterday, I also went through my boxes of swaps. I have one specifically reserved for my
20 Things exchange I participated in - what? 4 years ago, now! - the collection means more than using some of the pieces even though I don't get to *see* them every day. Going back through is so very inspirational!

I instantly thought of you!!! If you are interested in bidding and they won't ship to you I'd be more than happy to have it shipped to me and then send it on to you for a needle and couple of the vials! It's more than I'll use alone and I hate to steal it away from someone who will use more of it than me!
it just seemed so you :)

i have been trying to crackle all week. i used golden's paste which just looked as if i had smeared white stuff all over my work. not good. i am trying claudine's crackle with white glue, but that isn't going so well. either. i wanted the piece to look more aged after crackling, and then i sanded it. the glue just peeled right off as if you were peeling it off your fingers! so yesterday i sanded and dry brushed a bit first, and then did the crackle with glue business. i'm not sure i'm happy.
i have used crackle medium from michael's. whatever was the cheapest. it has worked for me in the past, but when i taught a class and we did the whole process much more quickly than i do at home, the crackle peeled off when people went to apply the top layer of acrylic paint. that was disappointing, and made me look like somewhat of an idiot!
so, let me know what you're trying and what you find out.
oh! i could do 20 things.

I'm actually going for more of what's deemed "craquelure" - think old painting or china crazing rather than the top coat actually cracking. I know there are ways of doing this with oils but I don't do oils and I can't believe there isn't a water-based alternative.
Regarding crackle medium - I've done this with good results and less than stellar results and my findings were that it is imperative for the undercoat to be good and dry before applying the crackle medium and then the crackle medium dry overnight if possible. I also found that an even coat of the final top layer was really important - not so much the thickness - and not to over brush. At all!
And I'd love to have you on board the 20 Things. I'm thinking mid-April deadline. Does that sound good to you?

I'm thinking mid-April deadline. What do you think? Too long? Too soon?
