After waking up on Wednesday with my foot screaming with pain it's pretty much gone into a nose dive from there. I lost count of the mg of Ibuprofen I took to hold the pain at bay. From the ball of my foot all the way down to my heel up the Achilles tendon to my hamstring. No weight bearing at all. Lord!
Tom kiboshed any thoughts of my going out for my swim ... and we all know how much Coach liked THAT! ... I was in a drug induced stupor upon his return. Lord!
Thursday ... had to go into the city to get new bike shoes and a new heart rate monitor as mine has been visiting Flake City for longer periods than less. I hobbled. Gulping back ibuprofen to keep from crying. While Tom went to his meeting I sat in Starbucks and contemplated my future. Okay. So that was TOO depressing so I read the local news paper.
Upon our return I did some major MAJOR stretching. Oh how it hurt. But slowly not in a bad way but in that "this is going to feel better ... soon" kinda way. I pressed on. Pushing the ball of my foot down, stretching the arch, Achilles, calf, hamstring ... stretching, stretching, breathe through the pain, stretching, stretching ... and wonder of wonders for a milli-second or so AFTER the stretch? NO pain. It wasn't long? But it released. Eureka!
So last night in my bath ... stretching stretching stretching. I could actually put the full weight on it as I walked up to bed. IN bed, massage, stretch, massage, stretch and with the help of yet again more ibuprofen I slept solidly last night.
I'm about to go do another set of stretching and hopefully, I can at least go on my trainer for a few minutes today. And to an easy swim. HOPEFULLY, I can get back at it sooner than later.
I don't even want to THINK that I haven't run in 2 weeks.
I don't even want to contemplate how far this past week has set me back.
Sooner than later. A step in the right direction.
