Explosions In The Sky
I need to start studying for math and/or doing my project for drawing soon, but first some updates . . .
My roomates and I officially have an on campus apartment for next year. And what an apartment it is. It's close enough to main campus to be able to walk to all my classes in 10 minutes or less, but still far enough away from everything to feel like I have my own place. It's also a really nice size. It has two single bedrooms, a double bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, a dining area, and one and a half baths. I'm pretty psyched.
In music news, I just recently started listening to Explosions In The Sky. This is pretty late to be jumping on the bandwagon for these guys, but I'd say it's better late than never. They're an all instrumental post-rock band from Austin, Texas, who create some of the most sincere, interesting, and sonically moving musical landscapes that have come out of the indie music scene. If they have to be compared to anyone, I might say Mogwai, but at the same time I feel that EITS' music is much more cinematic (hence their constant use on the hit show Friday Night Lights) and at times noisier. What really impresses me is that most of the instrumentation is done with basic instruments like guitars, bass, and drums. Still, they manage to capture the listener's attention so well. I don't know if I could ever do that. At least on that level.
I have a lot going on at school this week. It's beginning to stress me out. I was hoping to have a lot more of it done by the end of today. No luck. I hate feeling like I'm not getting anything done.
I'm hoping to get some more music recorded this summer with Migratory Animals as well as with my brother, which may or may not be one single project. I'm looking for a way to combine all of our individual work and group work into a collective band of some kind. I don't know how it will all gel together. I'd also really like to see some good shows this summer. Top of the list: Radiohead w/Animal Collective, Mates of State, The New Pornographers, Rouge Wave, Nicole Atkins, and many others, and then of course i want to see Death Cab For Cutie. I could definitely get to both of these shows, so I really don't have an excuse to not see these bands.

First of all, this is one kick ass band. Enough said. But there's something about this picture that immediately drew me in. Maybe its the fact that Kevin Barnes is screaming into his guitar pick ups (something I've seen Jesse Lacey do in person, ahthankyou), or maybe it's the holiday lights wrapped around all the equipment. Definitely an awesome vibe. Great picture. Thought I'd share it.
