Planet Doll Riz - my review ^^

Oct 17, 2008 17:05

So... new company on eBay! Planet Doll. Wow, these new companies seem to pop up every day now, don't they? ^^ A friend of mine has got herself a Riz (as a nekkid doll) and she asked me to put her together. I really like her. o_O So I'm writing a review.

Now, if you go through the discussion, you might notice a lot of talk about (yes, I'll admit) the very same thing you might (as I did) think upon first glimpse of the little girl bodies - and that is: OMG, it's like a little Dollstown body! :D The matter has been settled, the Dollstown and Planet Dolls artists have talked and both of them say the same thing: It is NOT a rip-off. I believe it, too. It is clearly not a copy (as it is a completely different size ^^), however I will admit that it did remind me of a DT body when I first saw her. It was almost the first thing out of my mouth, and I hadn't even known about the controversy at the time. So... they have a similar style. Let's just say that and be done with it, 'kay? XD Other than that, through the discussion, it seems they have pretty nice customer service and they get their orders out quick. Their website is nice and easy to navigate and my friend had no problems with them. :)

On to the next topic!

She has a really nice weight to her. Very solid (and this is coming from a Volks fan). And I LIKE the sculpt, little DT body that it seems to be. XD *kidding, kidding* But I do, really. The musculature is nice and has style. It's just off enough from human physiology to be kind of haunting - like the DT bodies in general, I find. I didn't take any nekkid pics of her - I felt kind of odd about that since she is not really mine >>, but there are pictures of the nude doll on both their internet and eBay stores, so feel free to take a look.

Her thighs are very... different, than every other doll I have seen. They stand out a lot from her hip joint. Nude, this can look kinda funny... but clothed, I can't even tell. The hip socket is perfectly round as is the top of her leg, so it swivels in all directions with a very high degree of poseability - and she's strung fairly tightly and keeps her poses like that. She can sit, stand, and lounge and keep her legs in poses my Volks guys couldn't even dream of. Bottom line: It's pretty damn cool. However, since she's strung so tight (I'm pretty sure out of necessity), she doesn't really pose in ways that would pop a joint out of it's socket - like Volks or most other dolls can do. She makes up for that, though, I think, by having a really great range of motion. She just doesn't curl up on herself or anything like that. Her arms do bend to about a 45 degree angle, though! Pretty nice... Her head range is also really decent on her neck. She doesn't have too much range up-and-down with her feet, but it's not bad - not rigid or anything - and around is good, and her hands have incredible motion.

Now... when one first receives a Planet Doll, it's kind of like getting an Unoa kit. She may be put together, but she needs a lot of work. Planet Dolls are really shiny. And really yellow. I kid you not. I would not recommend getting a faceup, 'cuz you're just gonna have to take it off to sand and re-coat the head.

BUT, with work, she can be just as nice as Volks resin. All I did was take her apart, sand her all over to roughen her up, sand her seams, and strip her of her shiny top coat, and then I re-MSC'ed her (well, I blushed her lightly too, but you don't have to XD). I gave her a mani/pedi and a faceup (not my best one yet, but I'm still trying. XD). I think she's really pretty... she's so growing on me, I swear... O_O

Now... what you have all been waiting for!!!

PICTURES!

First one's free:

standing

standing one foot in front of the other with feet turned... really easy with her thigh joint!

pretty fingers, I think - great range with her hands

she can even do first position, in ballet. XD easy peasy - though balancing is hard o_O

kneeling becomes tricky 'cuz her feet don't want to bend enough to get out of the way and they tip her forward... suppose you could bend them so they lie flat, but that wouldn't look as natural, I think... Anyhoo. Kneeling = doable.

lounges pretty nice, too. :)

COMPARISON SHOTS

With Ray and Mischa:

doesn't she look happy? ^^

Hope that was interesting! I may be coming out of hibernation soon... you never know... gotta do my own pictures, next. XD

Thanks! Comments/questions welcome. :3
