Sink Sunk.

**************************"Water, taken in moderation, cannot hurt anybody." -- Mark Twain

Okay, I said I would update all this week. I won't. Here's tomorrow's update today; there will be no update tomorrow or the next day; maybe I'll update again on Friday with news of the raccoon.

Last Saturday I discovered that our kitchen sink was leaking. The drain pipe had a steady drip if there was any water in either sink. (It’s a dual sink.) Fortunately, we rarely have water in that sink.

As this was Saturday, I resisted the urge to call a plumber as I have no desire to pay double. Instead, I cleaned out the underside cabinets and turned a fan on to dry it out. (The insulation under there was soaked. The press wood base fell out in pieces.)

I called the plumber first thing on Monday morning; he promised to work us in that afternoon. The guy was very friendly, he completely replaced all the pipe under the sink, saying whoever put it together must have had extra elbow joints and not enough straight pipes.

So the plumber leaves and Wife starts to clean the sink (as the plumber had left it dirty)... and breaks the fucking faucet.

Actually, all she did was break the little plastic aerator thing. What an aerator does is cause the water to come out in the nice steady flow that you're (hopefully) accustomed to, instead of a harsh, wild spray going everywhere.

Our faucet now had that harsh-wild-spray-going-everywhere feature that is so not popular in modern homes.

So off to Lowe's, where I hoped to buy the broken plastic piece. Which of course they don't sell. They sell sinks, and certain pieces of sinks, but not the piece I needed.

Before leaving the house, I took multiple pictures of the sink and the parts needed, and put the broken piece in a zip-lock bag for easy comparison. And of course I left the zip-lock bag containing the needed pieces to be replaced on the kitchen counter.

At Lowe’s, I compared everything they had to the pictures I had. I finally gave up and asked for help; 10 minutes later I picked one piece more or less at random and bought it.

It worked.

The sink no longer leaks, and the water flows correctly.

Yay me.
