What is WRONG with today's young people? They don't understand anything! At church events, they expect everyone else to do the work. They find other things more important than church (one morning a week), and don't even pay attention when they do come. If they help with anything, not just church activities, they expect something in return. They don't volunteer. They don't offer anything. They don't take care of things. They don't care about much of anything that doesn't involve their little part of the world. They live in a bubble.
We are a generation of weak people! When the older generations die off, who will be left? Us! Who will step up and take over? WHO WILL GROW THE BACKBONE WE NEED?? Someone has to take some responsibility here somewhere!
Now, I'm not trying to get up on a high horse and condemn my peers. I'm guilty of a lot of these things. But, at least I try not to be! I pay attention to the sermon as best I can. I have worked in every church function and every volunteer oppertunity I have been given since I was about 4 or 5. I have tithed my money since I began earning it. I don't expect anything in return...I can hope for rewards in Heaven, but I can't earn them.
Most young people think "my money is MINE, my time is MINE, my life is MINE" and think they can worry about everything else when they get older. Who do they think is going to take over? When our grandparents die and our parents grow too old, who will run the world? Who will be our leaders, especially spiritually? Who will the world turn to when Pat Robertson and Billy Graham die? Our generation needs to grow a backbone, get their butts off the couch, and start making a difference!
Too often I say "Dear God, I don't want to raise children in this world." Most of the time, I don't even want to be here.
We are part of a weak generation. Things go on around us that we perceive as normal and our parents' generation could never have imagined. The "sexual revolution" went counter-clockwise and spun us backward. "Gay pride" is an oxymoron. Watching TV is almost embarassing; people are paid to act out things "representative of American life" that represent me as well as grass resembles a satellite dish. Today's music scares and disgusts me. Current statistics about teen and pre-teen (!) alcohol, drug, crime, sex, and pregnancy rates horrify me. I've been told that I'm one of the "bright minds" of our generation - as compared to WHAT? Am I bright because I want to ESCAPE from my generation?
GAH!
